RutlanderFox Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 After a fairly slow start to the transfer window things have really started to get going this week. The Perez deal out of nowhere and of course all the Tielemans pandemonium today with him set to sign! I must say this feels like a watershed moment for the club’s future. Getting Tielemans in and with him choosing us over Man United sends out a big message to both future signings and current players (including Maguire) that LCFC is a great place to be now. This alongside having a squad packed full of top young talent ready to blossom, the best training ground in Europe on the way, a stadium expansion in the pipeline, a top class manager with the ability to attract players and Top showing no signs of slowing down going all out to achieve his and his Father’s dreams means that there are endless positives at our club right now. Tonight I feel elation like I did when we won the league and when we made the champions league quarter finals, that fans of other teams are about to start turning their heads at us and realise something special is happening at our club. It did kind of feel like the rollercoaster ride came to a halt after the battling Atletico defeat (at least from an on the pitch point of view as we’ve obviously had an extreme low off it since) but now it feels like the carriage is about to set off in motion again. Strap yourselves in! Fans are so quick to complain at the troubles at their clubs and how it’s not enjoyable supporting them (e.g. see Newcastle) so I think we should give the club so much credit for the ambition and ability to transform saying into doing to give us the best possible chance of having a great future. We’re so lucky to happen to be fans of a really well-run club, arguably the most well-run club around at the moment and at the same time I’m so proud to be a City fan
StriderHiryu Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 Great post! Yep really looking forward to this season now. Totally agree with you about the way the club is run, which is even more impressive given Vichai's death. If anything it's strenghtened the club's resolve.
Cheesemaker22 Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 Vardy - Perez Maddison Hamza - Tielemans Ndidi BC - HM - JE - RP Kasper I think this is a really good and well balanced XI with Perez drifting to the right and Maddison to the left at some points to defend or provide additional width. The full-backs can bomb down the flanks all day long and there is a good mix between creativity and defensive stability in midfield with plenty of lethality up top. Plenty to be getting excited about!
ian_marshall Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 I definitely feel re-energised and I'm looking forward to the new season along with the possibilities ahead. However I must say that I'm cautiously optimistic as this is Leicester that we're talking about and when does anything ever go to plan? As much as I'm excited and theoretically believe that we've now brought in enough quality to genuinely compete with the likes of United, Chelsea, and Arsenal, when I compare us to Liverpool and Man City we're still quite some way behind at the current time (although that may change as our youngsters develop). It's important that we stay grounded and don't get complacent whilst showing a degree of patience to allow this team the time it'll need to achieve their potential. If thing's do progress as we hope then this is a very exciting time to be a fan of this club.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 It is exciting tbf. Both of these signings are of the type the club needed and are in Rodgers’ ‘mould’ so to speak. They are skilful and quick and can keep the ball on the floor nicely. The Tielemans acquisition is possibly the biggest coup for the club since Cambiclasso. I’m looking forward to see him improving with age.
stripeyfox Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 A dose of reality maybe for some needed? A good signing in Perez and Tielemans will be great if we pull it off. I agree it is a "good day" But I'm not quite ready to hang out the PL Champions bunting just yet.. Top 6 would be a monumental achievement

I’d say that’s without a doubt mate isn’t it? Tielemans, Chilwell, Maddison, Gray..... Gray is STILL yet to achieve his potential but all four are clearly Prem players.

I for one have high hopes that under BR they will.

Will be interesting to see how Justin gets on this season too

Plenty to be getting excited about! I think it’s gonna be 4141 or 4132 What’s interesting is that whilst there is all this talk about wingers and needing another, there’s not actually too much room for them... If Ndidi is the preference in front of the back four and Perez has been bought as a starter then there is only one place left in midfield assuming YT and JM start... and we have 3 players already competing for that place in Barnes, Albrighton and Gray....
DerbyshireFox Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 Very exciting times ahead most definitely, but let’s not take it as definite that we’re gonna crack that top six. Man United and Arsenal are most definitely vulnerable and Chelsea have the transfer ban, but they all have experienced, top class players who have proven they can do the business on a regular basis. Then of course there’s the competition from the likes of West Ham, Wolves, Everton, who are all probably thinking along the same lines as us. That competition adds to the excitement and the anticipation of course! We have a hell of a chance of cracking that ‘big six’, but it’s going to take a lot of hard work and consistency to do it. ?
Happy Fox Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 I think Rodgers knows where we can improve, every single post match interview last season he referred to the final pass not being quite there but it’s something to work on I feel this pre season will be very important we know the talent we have at our disposal the players all have a high ceiling, the likes of Ndidi, Maddison, Chilwell, Barnes, Hamza can all improve even more and I think also the senior players in the squad as well have that hunger to improve as well. It’s going to be an interesting season ahead. We should be targeting Europe for sure. The top 6 do talk about us a fair bit which means we are on their minds these days. I think we can upset their apple cart.

True both those respective managers are really unproven at this level. They need time and Rodgers is more experienced than both right now. I am optimistic we have a first team right now that’s able to compete in the premier league and finish In the Top 6 we don’t have the distraction of Europe so we can just purely focus on the league.

That’s the hope but watch the meltdown when we are 16th after the first 3 games.
SouthStandUpperTier Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 I much prefer to think we'll be crap before each season. Then I can only be pleasantly surprised.
davieG Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 I hope all the optimism is all still visible if we're struggling to find our consistency in the 1st few matches and we don't get the booing of individual players or the team. This is a young developing team and will most likely need time to adapt to each other and how we are set up. Patience from the fans could well be key to our progress. As the young tennis player Coco said after yesterdays victory "The crowd was amazing. Even when I was down match point they were still cheering me on."

We could almost start a full 11 of u23 players and it would be better than a lot of teams in the league: Schmeichel Justin Benkovic Soyuncu Chilwell Ndidi Tielemans Maddison Gray Iheanacho Barnes Our squad really is mental and its not going away any time soon! Edit: And I haven't even included Choudhury in that 11!

HybridFox Posted 6 July 2019 Posted 6 July 2019 In my lifetime anyway, this is the best Leicester squad starting a season. Strength and depth in every position. Top six has to be a MINIMUM this season. There are no excuses if we don't

They’re slightly older than our lads though in fairness
