Oh...

Don't know how to read it, being unused to this board...

At the top of the page on the right there's an envelope icon click on that.

Firstly, thanks D for advice about reading private messages.

Lestagirl - thanks for your experiences on that board. I am a bit ashamed as It now seems wrong to slag off a board I have used for years on a rival site.

I have often been tempted to leave but felt it was allowing a minority of posters with absolutely no boundaries to win. Think of an insult and I have had it,

but usually about politics.

I have pointed out that their antics will drive advertisers away and contribute to its end. .Perhaps the decision has been made for me.

The other question asked - yes I live in the centre of Oadby which has more LC fans than you would think...

And finally, I have been a member on here for fifteen years so not exactly a newby...

The whole fansonline board is down. Its the end of the world as we know it, and I feel ............. bad.  On a rival Middlesbrough FC forum someone posted that the problem might have happened when the site was been upgraded at the weekend but its dragging on a bit too long for that now.

Really? That website looks like it hasn't been updated since about 1996.

It seems to be the parent outfit, fansonline as I randomly went to their Blackpool site to find it equally affected.

Comments about it on here are broadly correct, an unpleasant minority have polluted it.

For example, this week I offered the view that there was a problem with the (mis)use of VAR at the WWC. I was picked up on a phrase I used and accused of patronising others so an issue worth discussing (IMO) went personal straight away.

Any board  rules supposedly in place re behaviour  are so routinely ignored that they are pointless.

Cheer up Oadlad, Im told that someones kid is going to patch it up with gaffer tape. Should be working Thursday. Its unique, you know you love it!

I left a couple of months ago.

It was fun  for many many years, being mainly footie (about 90%) with a little bit of controversial stuff, and conspiracy rubbish, which i  could never tell if it was real because years ago  one of the admins created a fake userid that posted just to  irritate people and get them to respond and beef up traffic.

But since the brexit vote in particular (whatever your views on that), it's just been dominated by over the top, nasty bile mainly about politics, by admittedly a few people, but they end up  filling up  the threads, and winding a lot of other people up. Even when you started a thread about one thing one of the idiots would come in and hijack it.

Most folk on there are great. I've made some good real life friends though that board.

There was also a strict no banning policy which encouraged extremism. "you can just ignore them". Sound advice until  they started taking the board over and you're ignoring 90% of the threads.

So now it's mainly bile and a bit of footie, and a miserable place to  visit. Why do something you don't enjoy?

They sowed the seeds of their own  destruction as far as i'm  concerned.

I jacked it, more or less, after many years a few.months ago oadlad. You'd know my username on there. We've corresponded plenty of times.

Chin up. I still.lurk and enjoy reading your posts (even though I don't share your socialist views) ....you, sixth swan, clapham, foxinabox, brizzl, mickythehoss are all fascinating contributors

If not, come over here. They are pussycats on here. Which is nice...but lacks that bit of edginess because of it.

What you lose out of one pocket etc....

Edited to add Soho Fox, seeing as he's reading this thread, is a fine poster too. His inflammatory remarks are wonderfully light of touch, Ricky Gervais style, saying things we often all think but darent say. Whereas agent provocateur #2 Bnet is totally bereft of subtlety and intellect

I flounced late last year, the site kept logging me out as WoodHillFox so I registered again as my favourite word Feckit or Feck, Mickey & Rob do a great job and their are loads of great posters as well, quite a lot of people under different  usernames who have disagreements with themselves which is strange but hey ho...

Panini, thanks for your kind remarks. Yes, i has found itself able to resume, presumably having paid its bill.

Predictably, I have been labelled a 'quisling' by a poster who does not know its meaning.

That unexpected 24 hours enabled me to step back and find some perspective and realise that its attractions

(some great people) has now been pretty much overtaken by a minority of nasty posters who care nothing

for what passes for normal discourse.

So sad...
