Very happy for him. His treatment by Steve Cooper was terrible. Cooper wanted him and then said he didn’t. Then said he did, so we signed and then didn’t play him

It’s pretty mental thinking summer 2021 the fanbase was 50/50 split over signing him and Daka as the Vardy heir, and after all the hype, they both ended up being absolutely crap.

Perez scored twice as Villarreal beat Atletico 5-1 to get champions league football.. how is all these players are playing for top teams and we are in league 1😳😡

Mikautadze is there too, sure we were linked with him for a while and would have been a much better than what we ended up with

We played him out of position didn't we? Having said that he never looked a 30m player with us regardless.

Sounded like a heroes reunion at the talkSport Padel event today. Big Wes, Huth, Muzzy and Marc Albrighton taking part.

Not really news but I thought one or two might like to revel in the fact that both Daka and Ayew are now firmly in the ex-players category. And Soumare.

Usual lumbering performance up front for Ghana tonight. Probably should have scored but too slow.

Ahead of our start in League One:

Richie Wellens (Leyton Orient manager)

Sam Hughes (captain at Peterborough; allegedly never played a competitive game for us, very injury-prone)

Tom Cleverley (Plymouth manager)

Other than Banks I don't know who the others are. Bloke on the right though looks like Andy King

Great players the lot of them, although tbf the Andy King comparison to McLintock is pretty spot on, especially when it comes to their managerial capabilities....

Hartlepool United boss Lee Clark 'excited' by signing of Leicester City forward Chris Popov

Published 27th Jun 2026,
Leicester City forward Chris Popov has become Hartlepool United's latest summer signing.
Lee Clark is excited over the prospect of working with new signing Chris Popov after the Wales Under-21 international agreed a two-year deal at Hartlepool United.

The 21-year-old forward has been a man in-demand after he was released from League One newcomers Leicester City - and Pools saw off competition from clubs in the EFL and National League to land his signature. Popov will meet a familiar face when he heads to pre-season training with his new side over the coming days after he forged a prolific partnership with fellow Pools new boy Jack Nolan during a loan spell at Morecambe during the second half of last season.

The duo plundered their way to a combined 26 goals and 12 assists - and although they were unable to help the Shrimps mount a successful bid to avoid relegation from the National League, their performances have given a clear indication of the threat they will pose at Pools during Clark’s first season in charge.

The Pools boss revealed Popov’s ‘excellent spell’ with Morecambe was one of the main reasons why he was so keen to add the versatile forward to his squad and he believes the former Foxes prospect has ‘a bright future’ lying ahead of him.

He told the club website: “Chris Maxwell and Chris Beech had done a significant amount of work on him and, having watched him closely and spoken with him, it was easy to see why they were so keen to bring him to the football club. He enjoyed an excellent spell at Morecambe last season and showed that he can be a real influence in games at National League level.

“What stood out to me was his intelligence as an attacking player. He is comfortable receiving the ball in tight areas, linking play, creating chances and arriving in dangerous positions around the box. He gives us real flexibility because he can operate in a number of attacking positions and that versatility is something we value highly within the way we want to play. At 21, there is still a lot of development ahead of him, but he already possesses qualities that can help the team and we’re excited to start working with him. We believe he is a player with a bright future and we’re excited to see what he can bring to the team.”

Mentality

Frank Reid
Bromby & Partners head of football operations Maxwell added: “His performances at Morecambe made him one of the most sought-after young attacking players available and, understandably, there was strong interest in him following the impact he made during the second half of last season. Having spoken with Chris on a number of occasions, it quickly became clear that he had the ambition, mentality and hunger to improve that we look for in players. A lot of our conversations centred around the football club, the direction we are heading in and the role we felt he could play within that. What was particularly encouraging was how quickly he bought into what we are trying to build.”

I think it points plainly to where the problem lies.
