their loss our gain. According to some reports Man City were lining up a bid the previous year but didn't want to pay the £25M they were being quoted. We nipped in activated the relegation release clause and the rest is history. Great piece of work by us and probably the best £3.5M we have ever spent. OK so age is not on his side but he looks fit and has a few good years left in him yet. Youth and pace is no substitute for experience and the ability to read the game when it comes to centre backs and he is simply superb in this respect. Coming to us seems to have revitalised him. With the silly prices currently being bandied around for CBs (admittedly down to us having MUFC pants down and setting the bar) what price now Jonny.

An absolute bargain for sure, but who was the better signing Evans or Huth for around the same amount?

Only time will tell.

Ooof now that is a question! I'd say Evans is a better player than Huth but Huth won the Premier league! I guess it depends on the definition of what a "better signing" is.

Evans won the Premier League too, I think...

Not for us he hasn't, the question was who was the better signing. For me I couldn't care less what a player has done before he signs, it's about what he accomplishes in a City shirt.

I would say so far Huth has been better. His arrival paved the way to safety and then a title.

But take nothing away Evans has been great for us.

The thing r.e pace is that he's never been very quick so he's never relied on his pace in situations. The fact that he may get a bit slower won't have as much of an impact on him as he's developed his game to adapt to his lack of pace anyway through good positioning and timing

Not even a debate, we'd have been relegated without Huth.

Proper quality and I'm glad we've got him. Experienced and calm. So good on the ball (I said on here last season I preferred him on the ball than Maguire).

One of the bargains of the decade.

Huth had a massive impact in keeping us away from another spell of Championship obscurity too. That was a feat in itself.

Edit: Just seen your previous post @Babylon

It’s pretty amazing that we can even have this debate. Over the past 5 years, we’ve made some absolutely tremendous signings that cost <£5m. There’s so many that have had a huge impact on us.

It’s unfair to bring in a players appearance, he might be good looking but that’s your opinion.

What he can do for soyncus game is what will be priceless.

He's had to adapt to not being the fastest by being in the right place at the right time and having to time everything almost perfectly.

If he can get this into soyuncus game combined with soyuncus pace and agression he could become legendary

Great player quality all round and I don't even think he is that slow not fast but certainly not Maguire slow, plus he learned his trade under Fergie and even Fergie rated him.

One often overlooked aspect of the Evans/Soyuncu partnership - and the positive effect it has on the whole team - is that they are both very much at ease passing the ball with both feet, which essentially speeds up our play.

Ricardo, as we have also seen repeatedly, sometimes to devastating effect, is more than happy to use his left foot if necessary.

Unfortunately, in comparison Chilwell is totally one-footed, which means he is reluctant to cut inside a la Ricardo or use his right and therefore often ends up just passing it risk-free back to Soyuncu.

If you’re playing on your favoured side, passing down the line and inside should be fairly straightforward and unhindered solely using your preferred foot.

It’s only when playing on the opposite side that passing becomes an issue (or it should do).
