ktfox59 Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 Ive been thinking. Why do 5he spurs owners and board not get the same hate from pundits and media for sacking Poch as we got for sacking Ranieri, in tbh very similar circumstances. We won the premier v they sat in the top 4 or 5 for the previous 4 seasons and a European final.
lestajigs Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 Not similar at all tbf, little old Leicester won the premier league, spurs achievements do not come close
Wolfox Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 I was outraged when we sacked Ranieri…. I wanted him forever as nothing can replace being next to your dad, son and daughter when we lifted the cup… I still want to hate the fact that we sacked him, but, I’m running out of steam… Brendans alright isn’t he? What did Poch win exactly?

The similarity is that he took them to their 1st European final in a long time. And eyes the premier was great, but a final is not to be sniffed at. Not many UK clubs have done it.

Whilst their achievements is not at the level of ours they still punched well above their weight for 4 years thanks to Poch.

My question is though was,why not the hat for spurs owners

That's the issue. They may have only won 2 league titles in their history but they're classed as "big 6" and any side off pace with others (Spurs, Arsenal this season) are underachieving in the eyes of the media. We are seen as average/smaller and won the league. Although, it doesn't matter, we were going down and the sacking was justified. Also who cares what people think. When United sacked Mourinho there was massive fingers pointed at the players.
Lestoh Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 Because little old Ranieri is a cute old man who dilly-dings and Poch is a cold, entirely serious middle aged man.
davieG Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 Ranieri was like everybodies Granddad out side of Leicester.
Sand cats Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 Because people think that without Ranieri Leicester couldn't win the title, they don't know that Ranieri was the lucky one when he inherited a solid team from Nigel Pearson, Ranieri just kept playing with Pearson tactics and that was successful for a season, furthermore Ranieri was demolishing the player's confidence because he was always saying in the media it will be a miracle winning the title and next season he says that he needs 40 points, so all this contributed to the people criticizing Leicester City Decision thinking that Ranieri is bigger than the club.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 Spurs are crap. If they didn't play in London they'd not be considered bigger than us. Same kind of weirdos think Everton are huge, neither have won anything since colour telly.

As well as Poch did, and as much as a final “is not to be sniffed at “ Ranieri delivered one of the greatest over achievements in not only football but sporting history. And tbh we really didn’t get that much stick for it considering. and finally who cares, I’m not going to loose sleep about the lack of media back lash against the spurs board room making what is a actually a much needed correct decision.
Vlad the Fox Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 The backlash will come if Levy suddenly gives Jose the funds he never gave poch, as much as I dislike spurs I quite liked poch so am glad he’s gone, just don’t join arsenal.
Toddybad Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 I think the difference was that Poch looked like somebody that wanted out. He's talked of leaving if they won the Champions League and it was beginning to feel like both the manager and players needed a change. With Ranieri he had done the impossible and Leicester were still in the champions League at the point he was sacked. It felt like the rug had been pulled out from under him when he's won the premier League with Leicester, lost kante, had an injured half fit DD and players had lost the spark. Ranieri was still battling whilst Poch looked like he didn't have the heart for the fight any more. Plus, don't forget that half the country had fallen in love with us and Ranieri and what was a fairy story suddenly had a bad ending.

Drinkwater wasn't half fit when Ranieri was sacked, if anything I'd argue the first few months in the season after we won the league he was the only one putting in performances similar to those the season before. He lost his way come January 2017 but that wasn't a fitness issue.

Aus Fox Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 The glaringly obvious difference is we won something! As much as Ponch had spurs competing, arguably above the expected level, maybe not when you consider the demise of Arsenal and Man Utd over that time. Ultimately with Spurs best team for god knows how many years, some genuine quality in every position and money to spend, up until last year. They went on to win bugger all!

David Hankey Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 Why are we talking about a team dubbed 'The Nearly Men'? The Spuds are a team that has huffed and puffed and done very little else.

I remember the Swansea away game, 2-0 down at half time and Claudio took Simpson and Fuchs off and replaced them with Amartey and Chilwell
The whole world smiles Posted 29 November 2019 Posted 29 November 2019 The difference is Claudio and Leicester city had actually achieved something meaningful. Tottenham and ponch Had not.
