People will say that if we qualify for Europe next season we need new signings to bolster the squad and that’s absolutely true.

But the priority with any extra cash we get has to be paying the players we’ve already got. Like it or not it is extremely hard for a club like ours to sign established players who are ready to play at that level so retaining those players who have got us that far is critical for our progress as a club. This isn’t like 15/16 where it was a bunch of experienced pros who we knew would likely not be there in 4-5 years, this could be the start of something great.

They've obviously started with Rodgers who if he does eventually leave it wont be for more money or better facilities/internal support unless of course he messes up..

This is very true. I feel like a lot of our medium term prospects depend on how well we can cope with people trying to poach our players/manager. If the current crop stays together for another few years we might be able to break through and ‘establish’ ourselves as a top club. If we are picked apart then we will inevitably drop and this season might be another flash in the pan.

Pleased to see the club seem to be recognising this and getting things done accordingly

Ricardo is a must. If you look at the right-backs at the biggest clubs in the world; Semedo at Barça, Walker at Man City, Reece James at Chelsea, Meunier at PSG - you can make a case that he’s a stronger option than all of them. Someone will come knocking.

Sadly I think Riccy P is so good that it will be very hard to lock him down. He is destined for greatness and a Uber club.

Highly Doubt Riccy will be signing a new contract anytime soon.

He will sure to have more bargaining power as his contract starts to run down and I expect he will have plenty of options.

I will be very impressed if we get him to sign a new deal .....

The training ground is a good sign. All we need now is a bigger stadium being filled every week and there’s no reason we can’t stay a top 6 side just like Man City did. We just need to qualify for Europe every season. As soon as we don’t that’s when our players will move on.

Paying players bigger salaries and extending their deals protects the asset - it’s business

Doesn't stop them moving though does it. Mahrez and Maguire both signed new deals and were gone within twelve months. It does however, show intent and wards off any but the really serious bids to lure them away. No doubt though once speculation starts, the press will claim that despite the new contract a "gentlemans agreement" was in place that they could leave after the following year and nasty little Leicester are blocking their "dream moves" to the club that they have always supported or some such rubbish. Do agree though that it is Ricci P that worries me the most. Unlike some of the homegrown lads, he is more cosmopolitan in that he has already plied his trade in three countries and a move to Spain would hold no fears for him. No idea what his relationship status is but could we find him a nice local girl (or boy, who knows?) to make him put deep roots down here?

I think this is spot on, that's when you'll really start being considered a bona fide force and become able to attract and more importantly retain the top top players, with regular European competition, even if that's consistently making the latter stages of the Europa League.  This season though Champions League qualification looks in the bag to me.
