davieG Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Leicester City Under-23s are doing their best to keep pace with the senior side. Brendan Rodgers’ men have recorded nine straight wins in all competitions and the development squad are only just behind, reaching eight victories in a row with a 2-1 success against reigning champions Everton in Premier League 2 on Monday night. The result, secured by a quickfire double from Admiral Muskwe and Callum Wright, means Steve Beaglehole’s youngsters sit third in the Premier League 2 table, one point off top, while their winning streak has also taken them into the last 16 of the EFL Trophy. Soon, they will match the senior side in more than just a good run of form. After signing a new long-term contract to 2025 last week, Rodgers plans for joined-up thinking among all the City sides. He wants to create a “Leicester way” with the same tactics and style evident across the senior, development and youth teams. Rodgers said: “Initially, when you come in, you impose your way on the first team, and help the coaches and they work. "But over time, fundamentally, we would like the team to follow those principles. Our game has always been based around a playing style at the top level of the game, and that's based around being in balance, through all aspects, so you defend well, press well, have possession of the ball, and counter-attack. "So we'd hopefully synchronise a style of football throughout the club, and when you have a manager for a longer period of time, that helps. “Yeah, absolutely [I want to build a ‘Leicester way’], and that's the exciting part." https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/brendan-rodgers-plans-leicester-city-3626775
davieG Posted 10 December 2019 Author Posted 10 December 2019 I’ve dreamt of this for so long, it’s been proclaimed before let’s hope with his long contract he achieves it.
AKCJ Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 It's not even just a flex. Every manager should aim to do this. It just makes it even easier for the academy lads to get into the first team.
norwichfox Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 It's been a long time coming, I'm really pleased to read this.
Guest SO1 Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 "The Leicester Way" Love the sound of that!
urban.spaceman Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Worth noting: Claude held this view too and attended U23 games on a very regular basis. Personally I think this is club driven and was one of the many reasons we brought in Rodgers, as he has the skills and experience to implement it. Either way I'm ****ing thrilled and can't wait to see more academy graduates break into the squad.
Foxxed Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Hopefully their great run of form will get them some loans in Jan unless Bren fancies a direct route to the first team.
Spudulike Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Can't we find a better name? I remember the ridicule when those up the A6 went on about the Derby way. A bit cringy, we're better than that. That said, so much better developing our own. Seagrave is going to be pivitol in this.

Dream it. Think it. Talk about it. Do it. The basics of creation. Look at Seagrave and now this. Your dream is coming true.
volpeazzurro Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 I just hope that Beaglehole and any other coaches are good to implement this or if not, get more suitable staff in.
Billy Big Balls Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Has there been a noticeable change to the way the u23s play already? Is that why the results have improved or is it just coincidence?

A bit cringy, we're better than that. Yeah, every club seems to do it. "The United Way". "The West Ham Way". Turns out what they mean by those is they want to win games and play attacking football. Hardly some unique philosophy.

gurru991 Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 When you consider how much Chilwell, Barnes & Choudhury would have cost to buy & how much we could sell them for now, then the Academy make good financial sense. Playing the same style as the first team should be a very obvious choice.

There no way that isn't cringy to say it unless you're sterile as fcuk, like "possession philosophy" or something, it's not worth worrying about.

Cincinnati Fox Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Beaglehole is 44****ing2 long ball though. The u23 have done alright for the last couple of years but in the whole it’s because they are bigger and stronger than the other teams. The centre half was the top scorer the season before last! i suspect a new u23 manager will be required to implement Brendan's style.
fox766 Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Without sounding really cringe and cliche and I know it's still very early in is reign. But do we think Rodgers could be our Fergie type manager. The way he talks reminds me of what Fergie did for Man Utd in the early 90's.

Loans are good but its crucial they find the right teams to loan them to. If our players are being taught to play a certain way, we don't want them being loaned to a team who plays like Burnley for example as it would not be productive for them at all. They'd need to join a top championship team but its whether any of them are ready for that level yet. If not, they'd be better staying with the u23's.
Desabafar Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 this is so important for us, big part of setting us up for the future imo is getting a philosophy running from top to bottom
