Completely agree. Played the game in such a way, took the piss but genuinely had a purpose behind it. I'm not convinced you'll get anything quite like him again.
RumbleFox Posted 21 February 2020 Author Posted 21 February 2020 Do you know who I ****ing loved? Kanu. He wasn’t even great but always had a soft spot for him. X

One of my favourite footballing memories is watching Ronaldinho and Edgar Davids playing for the same Barca team against shit La Liga sides and basically trying to out do each other trying different skills and tricks for a laugh. Peak football.
Guest MattP Posted 21 February 2020 Posted 21 February 2020 Fat Ronaldo in that Barcelona period was still a level of football I've seen since. Diego Maradona would probably drag us to a Champions League trophy though. Either of them.

And the thing with Ronaldinho is that at his peak, he was further ahead of the next best by a distance that hasn't been matched since. Everything about Ronaldinho was magic.

Ended up in a Wiki rabbit hole the other day - Romario rarely comes into conversation when people yap about Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho (perhaps because he didn't spent *that* long in Europe) - but his goalscoring record was obscene. Imagine being a PSV fan in the 90s, flogging him then getting Ronaldo in.

The Barcelona performance that battered Man U 4-0 was the first time I think I'd watched a team as a kid and thought wow. https://www.worldfootball.net/report/champions-league-1994-1995-gruppe-a-fc-barcelona-manchester-united/ What a team. Stoichkov and Romario up front, Busquets Dad in goal and Pep in midfield
Reginaldo Posted 21 February 2020 Posted 21 February 2020 Maradonna off his head after downing Vardy’s snuff/port/red bull concoction
Aus Fox Posted 21 February 2020 Posted 21 February 2020 If we’re taking past player I’d love a front two of Bergkamp playing just behind Davor Suker. Flash forward to the present day and I actually cannot think of a single player I enjoy watching outside our team. Classic quote coming up here but, as much as I’d love to see Messi in a Leicester shirt, would I want to see Vardy dropped? Ronaldo doesn’t do it for me, maybe Mbappe as the long term replacement for Vardy.
Foxandfolly Posted 21 February 2020 Posted 21 February 2020 always thought Henrik Larsson would of been a great signing, absolute class player
Chester Dontlie Posted 21 February 2020 Posted 21 February 2020 I like Madders and Tielers a lot but would swap both of them for this guy in a heartbeat

Wymsey Posted 21 February 2020 Posted 21 February 2020 Rooney with Vardy and Patrick Vieira with Ndidi.

Did well in Scotland and in Sweden but in any major league pretty much a 1 in 4 striker.

Loved Rosicky. The wins against Netherlands and Germany two of my favourite ever summer tournament games. Also the banger he hit against the septics in the following world cup was ridiculous. I remember watching the where they were down 0-2 to the Dutch early. I was watching it with a Czech who was almost in tears after the 2nd Netherlands goal. I told him there's nothing to worry about and that they'd come back no problem. Fortunately that worked out since I was really just blowing smoke up his ass. Was a fantastic match and especially seeing him go from absolute misery to total euphoria Nedved was my favourite from that Czech team.
MPH Posted 22 February 2020 Posted 22 February 2020 can we start a thread for full time staff? If so i’ll get the ball rolling with Anderson Perry.

Can remember watching on TV as he scored an unbelievable hat trick at Old Trafford in Champions League (not sure what stage). One of the greatest complete centre forwards of all time and probably in my lifetime. edit: Here it is. That third goal is a belter but look at Zidane's ball at about 1:48 Class. We're talking players who did it at absolutely every level of football including the World Cup final.
