Immoral premier league Clubs

Would be so ashamed if we furlough staff. Non footballing staff would be paid very little in comparison and considering we consistently turnover upwards of £120m there's absolutely no need at all

I think he is.

"The BBC has published the latest list of its highest-paid stars later as part of its (latest)  annual report.

Some stars have had pay increases, while others have dropped down the list and there are also some new joiners.

Bear in mind that not all earnings are published - for example, Zoe Ball's earnings for Strictly: It Takes Two are not included, as that is produced by BBC Studios, which is classed as a commercial entity. The stars of other high profile programmes produced by BBC Studios - such as Top Gear and Doctor Who - are also missing for the same reason.

Here's a list of the biggest earners at the BBC in 2018-19:

Gary Lineker - £1,750,000-£1,754,999"

Lineker works for several broadcasters/ media outlets....... as such he can justify having a limited company and that company will charge both the BBC and BT (plus others)

a player working ostensibly for one club will struggle to justify that limited company approach to HMRC .........

Did have a 120 million quid turnover.Im finding it alarming that very few seem to have a clue what’s around the corner. We could be seeing mass unemployment, food shortages and bankrupted governments at this rate.Yet there’s disbelief when billionaires who have probably got bigger priorities right now, don’t want to service their expensive toys anymore.

Footballers can take the hit, ordinary people earning ordinary wages can't. There's very few sectors that don't need the government to prop them up, football (at the elite level is one of them). It's very obvious the club aren't just a play thing for Top and his family. The nature of football means that life goes, football clubs sustain huge losses and almost always continue as normal. The club do not need to furlough somebody working in the club shop whilst the players are earning millions a year and the directors are earning hundreds of thousands. Billionaires shouldn't abandon staff who are on breadline because their net worth will be cut.

Football clubs that rack up huge losses usually end up in administration. We should know that as much as anybody.Your right that Leicester aren’t a play thing for Top.Of course I understand everything that comes with that.Lets not fool ourselves though, that ultimately we are a vehicle for his company. How is the travel industry doing by the way?His priority right now will be safe guarding his business. His bread and butter. The fact that Spurs and Liverpool have gone down this route.Knowing full well how appalling it looks should be making people think just how bad this situation is.I hope Top does the right.Im sure he will.Wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t though.

Would be a big move if we didn’t do this tbf.

King Power have seen their entire business basically reduced to junk overnight due to Thailand banning flights and non-residents entering the country.

Where do King Power stop then.Have they laid staff off yet?If they have then are they being furloughed? Are they getting the same 80% of normal pay as we are in the UK?If not then what makes Darren in the ticket office more important than one their employees in their shops and offices.Unless people are expecting Top to bail everyone out.

Its not the Governments fault this club has crossed the moral high ground. As if Boris Johnson is going to single out Liverpool (not others) for doing this.

NO!

The issue is firmly at LIVERPOOL FC's, door step (and the others).  They are hypocritical (gushy video posted supporting for the NHS) and now taking tax payers money without need.

I'm a capitalist free marketeer (Not Socialist), but these points tonight I fully agree with.

Football is now seriously way off the public opinion. Using our money to Furlough (when they have Millions already) and many other smaller community businesses will end up folding is disgraceful.

Likewise, but I can see this being the case with Leicester City sadly. King Power's revenue is generated through duty-free at airports and there aren't many flights taking place right now! Perhaps more than other owners, ours might be getting stung more than most.

I hope that we don't see staff getting furloughed and would hope the players agree to a pay cut to sort it out, IMO that would be the Leicester City way, given that Vichai was a man always known for his generosity and would mean the players could follow in his footsteps.

Totally agree. If Leicester do this then I wont be paying for another ticket. Really saddens me to say it but I wouldn't be able to live with myself paying for tickets to watch overpaid people who didnt help during this pandemic. I've already made a decision that I will never pay to go to Anfield, Sports Direct Arena or the shithole Spurs ground. Any other prem club that does it will also be on my no go list. The whole thing is a shambles!

I dont think the issue necessarily lies with the owners not wanting to "service their expensive toys" as you put it, it is more the fact they haven't asked (as far as we know) players to take a wage cut to be able to pay club staff. And if said owners "dont want to service their expensive toys anymore" does that mean that when this blows over they wont be signing any new players? I'm pretty sure if the likes of Liverpool and Spurs cant afford to pay staff then they surely cant afford any new signings/ contract extensions for current playing staff? Do you see where there is a huge moral dilemma here? I honestly think that any premier league club that "cant afford" to pay their staff should be transfer embargoed. The whole thing stinks and is just a sign of the elite sticking 2 fingers up to everyone else! If the rest of the premier league follows suit with putting their staff on furlough then football has well and truly died!

Again,Spurs and Liverpool knew going down this route looked dreadful. They know it will cost them far more in bad feeling and money in the long run.Yet they still went ahead and did it.How many more clues do you need? This isn’t just going to blow over.Football in it’s current form has died.Spurs entire business plan has just gone up in smoke. The players will do what they can to an extent.Ultimately though they will be protecting what they’ve already got.Did you really expect anything else from the elite?

Maybe the point is that clubs who turn over £120m+ a season shouldn't be making massive losses already.

Maybe those clubs' business plans should have some form of disaster planning, business continuity. Instead they seems to spurt the money up the wall, paying millions for mediocre players in fees and wages in the desperate struggle to stay up at any cost, even if that means losing millions a year.

Any club who ends up in administration in the Premier League on the back of this only had themselves to blame. They had the money to prevent this, the finances and the income smaller clubs can only dream of.

As has been said, if nothing else good comes from this terrible situation, maybe some responsible financial management in the PL might prevail

Poor from Liverpool especially, there is a scenario where you can see some clubs with less turnover requiring assistance based on previous financial commitments, but it seems a bit poor in general.
