davieG Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/like-little-town-leicester-city-4026133 Youri Tielemans is enjoying life in Leicestershire after making a £40m move from AS Monaco last summer. ByJamie Kemble 21:56, 6 APR 2020 Leicestershire's 'mix of cultures' has helped Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans settle in the East Midlands. Tielemans enjoyed a loan stint at City last season before becoming the club's record signing in the summer, joining from AS Monaco for around £40m. And while the loan stint will have helped the 22-year-old settle in Leicestershire, it has been the people and the diversity not too dissimilar from Brussels that has helped Tielemans get to grips with this part of the world. “It’s been amazing here, honestly," he told the club's official website in an extended interview. "People are very open with me. They’re very welcoming, so it was a very good atmosphere for me here in my time on loan. "I like the city, honestly. I like the mix of communities, of people, and that’s always been there in Brussels. That’s why I like it. That’s why I feel comfortable here – I feel home and it’s going great for me. “That’s because the mix of cultures is the same. The personalities in Brussels are way different. There are not many people who live in Brussels, they come to work there because it’s a large European city. Here, it’s more like a little town, a little family. There is a lot to do in Brussels, but it’s not as open as here.” Speaking about his experience in and around the city, the Belgian international added: “When I’m with my family, all of the people I have met were very respectful of me being with them. "They would say sorry for bothering me, but when they approach you, taking a picture literally takes 10 seconds so it’s okay! “It’s little details, but if we can give something as players back to the fans by stopping and taking some time with them, especially with the support they give us when they come to the game, it’s amazing for them. If we can make them smile, and make sure they come to the next game, then it’s good.” Tielemans tied the knot with his partner at the age of 20 and has two daughters, the youngest of which was only born in October. “Melina’s now three, and I’ve recently had another daughter, Léana, and she’s been very good – touch wood!” he said, providing an update on home life. “She’s doing fine, and obviously, my first daughter is really happy to be a big sister. “She’s really, really happy. For parents, the most important thing is how your first child is going to get along with your second, and we were a bit worried that she might be a bit jealous, but no – she’s so proud of her!” Tielemans also spoke about his hometown and why he was never much of a homebird. He added: “I was born in Uccle, where one of the best hospitals for giving birth is. That’s where Melina is born as well, in Uccle. Now, they’ve moved to another hospital in Belgium, and that’s where Léana was born. “Sint-Pieters-Leeuw is the name of the town where my house was when I grew up. Honestly, I spent most of my time at school, football or judo. Most of the time, I wasn’t home, but I used to live there before moving into my apartment with my wife."
Out Foxed Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 great to hear also interesting he did judo, should have used that link to get Zlatan
Lesta2014 Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 Can only get better, has been inconsistent lately but I think that will help us keep him an extra year or too!
Stuntman_Mike Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 Fair play to him. Married with 2 kids at 22 and living in another country. He's experienced more than most already.

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 Hopefully he's using this time off and hitting the treadmill hard

fox_up_north Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 He's been inconsistent but he's still only 22, adapting to a new country and league and he does seem like he gives a monkey's about playing for us. I'll take positive attitude and effort any day of the week.

I'll take positive attitude and effort any day of the week. Exactly. Steve Walsh mentioned this (not about Youri obviously) in the recent LCFCTV documentary. His form has dipped and he does look a bit leggy. Infact he looks knackered about half an hour. Those misplaced passes can be forgiven when a player will bust a gut weekly to get into positions and make tackles others wouldn’t. He was outstanding on loan and he just hasn’t managed to hit those heights. If he had, he’d be wanted by plenty of clubs this summer. Again, he has his flaws but I’d say we’re lucky to have him alongside Maddison, N’Didi and Praet. That really is some midfield. I genuinely think we’d struggle to upgrade on him without taking a massive risk on someone. Very good player, great attitude, professional, young, experienced. Leicester City can’t just pick these players up, and when we do, they are bound to have a weakness or two.
StanSP Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 Nice comments to read/hear. A footballer's life isn't just contained to the training pitch or football ground(s). It probably means the world to him that he's been welcomed in to the club and city with open arms and that people have shown him kindness and love on the streets. He's well respected anyway for such a young player and comments like the above will only take that respect further.
Ian Norman Droid Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 He's a player that isn't at his best right now but he plays with a big smile and doesn't lack for effort. Can't say fairer than that. And we all know that when he does find his form again he'll be a top, top player.
Clever Fox Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 Now I understand why his form has suffered a little, With a 3 year old and a Baby to contend with. He going be a super player for us over the years with him right of center and Madison left of center, behind Vardy, The Goals and assists will flow.

goody2028 Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 And there I was thinking I couldn’t rate Youri more...
Langley Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 Leicester like Brussels? Christ, Brussels is a shithole. Is Leicester that bad?!

boots60 Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 He's from Belgium. He's bound to love living in Leicestershire. I was once on the train from Holland to Belgium. Crossing the border from Holland I asked the guard why the train had suddenly stopped. Its not stopped at all, he replied. Everything looks the same in Belgium.

Alan Birchenall lives only up the road from you, in Mountsorrel.
Stadt Posted 7 April 2020 Posted 7 April 2020 He was probably born 10 years too late footballing wise. Unbelievable technically but he’s just not very athletic, I’ve just thought now he’s quite a similar player to Fabregas. In games where we can dominate possession him and Maddison are great but in tougher games those too just don’t work well as a pairing.

Jack Hobbs lives up that end on Buddon Lane, but yeah Tielemans down the bottom, don’t knock it too much, down the road from me that haha!
