Terrible signing in the end but a question I'm intrigued by is if he really was as bad a player as some of you are describing how the hell did he captain Reading to finish 3rd (I think) the season before?? He must have had some level of ability or was that just a one off season?

You say he captained them as if he was driving a P&O Cruise ship across the Atlantic ocean. You can captain a side and be nothing more than a bit part with an arm band, look at Wes Morgan

So MM confirms exactly what I heard at the time.

The other piece of the jigsaw I heard though was that MM wasn’t doing what was asked of him in training and was clearly  trying to undermine NP.

So NP decided to win the power battle and put MM in his place. There was a number of potential problem players, so taking out the leader like he did made the others realise NP wouldn’t tolerate any power struggle with certain players.

Probably not the most ethical way of going around the situation, but with NP it was all about a strong group and any splits or factions weren’t ever tolerated.

I think you're right. Maybe not the most ethical, but probably the quickest way to sort the problem out.

What a summer that was by the way lol Hargreaves, Beckham, Heskey, Owen, Maynard, Mackail-Smith, Shane Long, Jimmy Kebe just some of the players linked despite the fact we signed 12 or 13 players as it was!

Didnt Sven liken Steve Howard to Christian Vieri at one point?

It was like a Waitrose version of Mad Dog Allen's Lidl trolley dash.

I can't remember the Howard/Vieri comparison, but I think he did say Gallagher was similar to Beckham. Probably trying to justify his new contract.

Kamara was perfectly fine, didn't set anything alight but wasn't even the worst striker we got in under Sven - he was infinitely better than Roman Bednar, for example.

holy hot damn, I forgot about Bednar. Looked like the Michelin Man and played like him too 😅

So exciting when we signed Bednar - thought we'd gotten a goal scorer in.

I think you only have to look at what happened to the likes of Mills, Danns, Beckford etc... after leaving us to see that they were the problem. Pearson's judge of character was never far wrong - though I'd be interested in hearing the whole thing of this regardless.

From what I remember about Kamara. He played about 8 or 9 times. In 2 of those games he looked absolutely superb and far too good for the Championship. Then in the rest of the games he looked like he couldn't be arsed and it was like playing with 10 men.

You could say he was the Demarai Gray of his day.

hmm he came pretty late into the season. only played a few game and looked good in the majority of his games from memory. never knew why sven never tried to sign him after that. same with yakubu.

We had no chance of getting Yakubu. He was quality and you could clearly see he was Premier League class.

He went to Blackburn that summer and scored 20 goals even though they got relegated.

So mills confirms what I’ve always thought Pearson is an egotistical bully.

The book says take the head off the snake 😂, I believe mills is suggesting he was assaulted, as he stumbled out of the room, Pearson should have been sacked.

Pearson’s behaviour got more aggressive, and let’s be honest strange with the pressure of managing above his comfort zone, it sounds like there was many occasions he could, or should of been sacked.

People seem to think he’s a nice guy, I hate bullies, and think their is a fine line between being assertive and being a bully, and in his actions we did see, I think he crossed that line, and rumoured all the time as well, and I think I tend to believe the rumours.

Did Mills report it? A few months later he said nothing happened, 8 years later he gives vague and cryptic answers on a podcast so obviously he's telling the whole story.

Why didn't he come out and say exactly what happened?

Probably a bit like bullying in a normal work place, mills could have probably took on Pearson in a fight, I don’t know either so from my point of view.

Like all bullies Pearson held the power, and if he reported it, I’m guessing it was just the two in the office, so his word against Pearson, and could have ruined his career being known as a problem player.

Or as happened Pearson refused to let him near the first team, potentially damaging his mental well being if it is as he says, he did nothing but ask a question, and being assaulted, and the fear of facing that bully every day.

It was the worst kept secret at the club, everyone talk about it on here at the time, but either way, with Pearson’s surly, arrogant, egotistic behaviour with opposing players, and media, I wouldn’t be surprised if he would become violent if somebody questioned him, in my opinion.

Bullying and other issues are rife in football, as in all work places, and behaviour like this if proven, or any proven bullying, should mean the instant dismissal, bullying is vile and shouldn’t be accepted in any walk of life, or allowed due to the bullies position of power, this is why I disliked Pearson, his personality has the appearance of a bully, and I hate bullies, but that on own take on Pearson

Mills has got nothing to lose now, why didn't he say exactly what happened then in that interview?

Nige knows a wrong'un when he sees one. Not like he didn't give players chances, Ben Marshall for example had huge potential but clearly didn't have the attitude. Mills wasn't right for captaincy and was being paid too much while the ethos early on under Nigel's second spell was 'trim the spend for ffp by cutting dead weight, build a capable squad', that was fully achieved. Mills went onto mid-table Championship mediocrity, we didn't.

I've just looked Ben Marshall up, he plays for Stoneclough in the 12th tier now?!

Read the Stoneclough bit on his wikilol

I don't think Pearson is a bully, he just doesn't suffer fools lightly. Most of the best workers and blokes I've met are similar.
