Why aren't betting shops dying out?

You can do your betting online.

What are the reasons for keeping them open and opening new shops?

The slot machines possibly? A lot of people still use cash and judging by the outcry (from myself as well btw) about the rollout of mobile tickets at LCFC, don't have smart phones either.

Also surely some low level money laundering.

Funnily enough I found a quid coin on Saturday and put an acca on in a store, first time in years.

There's still a sense of community in them, you'll still get groups of old boys that'[ll meet up and sit in there for a few hours watching the racing and talking to each other.

Not that that's the only reason, but I imagine it's a contributor.

Drunks, addicts etc still need somewhere to go, rather then the shit homes and families to deal with

How much does someone like boylesports care about community?

Nevermind that, the old boy generation is dying out too.

No doubt certain criminal activities are taking place in some of these shops but my question is really why do betting companies see high street outlets as a worthwhile expenditure in this day and age?

Oh they don't care, but there's clearly enough there to make profit. I go in my local betfred there's always a minimum of 10 people in there.

Either way, I'm glad they're open. Means I can have a Saturday paper bet without an online account and the lure of the casinos.

Because the FOBT’s, if they weren’t in shops betting shops would almost certainly be closed down. The money they take is astronomical and that’s why they open so early and close so late.

Also as mentioned you can sit in there from 8am-10pm without getting hassled. Keep warm. Whatever. I guess for some people as well it could be a way of socialising. I go into Ladbrokes once a week to put our works bet on and you can tell some of the lonely old boys are or have been in there as a way of some sort of sanity.

You can pay on card to go on the FOBT’s now too.

Can anyone recommend a cleaner in the Kirby Muxloe vicinity for my grandad, he’s 96. Cheers

Bit woke isn’t it, we never had my Grandad cleaned. He did smell a bit towards the end though.

Lots of noise regarding suppression of "free speech" over in the main forum regarding the current state of the club and what should be done about it.

Sympathetic, but at the same time there has never been an absolute entitlement to free speech on here or any other UK (or world) platform and I'm not sure what the fuss is about with Mark (regardless of his own feelings on the matter) having to take measures to defend himself from potential legal trouble caused by posts here.
