His only defence is that Barnes is useless defensively. He does track back more than Mahrez ever did but he may as well not bother. He’s pathetically lightweight.

Been saying for months. Simply not good enough. Feel sorry for the lad. But quite honestly cannot see him ever being a premiership level left back.

The problem is we all know he’s not good enough but we’ve no one else we can genuinely play there . Brunt was no better  and iit don’t help with Barnes always casually jogging back like a kid late for school

Thomas reminds my of Stefan Oakes under Martin O'Neill.

A player who is continually played, can look ok when the squad are performing and a potenital prospect but miles off the pace when the team is struggling.

When Oakes was finally moved on he settled a Division 1 or lower.

When we constantly try to play out of defence, even when we are being pressed hard, our defenders will always look under pressure and make mistakes. I’m not saying he’s good but he is in one of the most pressured positions and I’m sure opponents target him.

Forest knew to give Thomas space when Ward had the ball, encouraging the pass. Ward then pinged it to him at which point the Forest players pressed knowing he’d panic and lose the ball. It happened multiple times. Ward just carried on pinging challenging balls to a full back who was getting absolutely annihilated by their right side. Rodger’s stood and watched it happen.

He stood and watched the same thing happen 12 months ago as well.

At least 12 months ago we had a keeper that could bail us out of a mess with a worldie save. We don’t have that now.

Can’t defend.
Can’t attack.

Isn’t quick.
Can‘t pass.

Can’t cross.

Doesn’t score goals.
Doesn’t overlap Barnes effectively.

He is the most out of depth player I’ve seen. He needs and has needed to go out on loan to the Championship for some time now. The fact that he’s become our first choice LB (yes through injury) is totally unacceptable and piss poor squad management.

The frustrating thing is he had a v good cross and pass  on him when he first broke into the first team and his defensive side of his game was his strong point ( lack of pace was main question mark he had when he first broke into the team) . Another example of a player who's declined under Rodgers after a promising start

It was a painfully poor performance. He wasn't just giving the ball away when under pressure, but also when he had nobody near him. He really has regressed under Rodgers. Unfortunately I dont think he's ever going to make it in the PL, but will come handy if/when we get relegated.

Dreadful today, and thats being nice.

But if the whole team are shite, as they are, confidence is so low.

I still have hope for him, but in no way am I defending today's show.

Another player who has regressed. Now he goes forward with fear. In this game, he could have tried to control the ball first but instead chose to aimlessly head the ball to the opposition. Was very poor today.

With a young player like Thomas, he needs guidance from his fellow defenders, from the goalkeeper and the manager, sadly he is getting none from either.
