He was diabolical today. Obviously his defending was weak, insipid and lazy, but his forward play was bad as well - he often misplaced simple passes.

Ugh.

Today he just stopped running when Almiron passed the ball but continued his run, it was just lazy rather than ability

Disgusting.

I am not sure this lad has a future at this level

Forward play? I'm not sure he got over the half way line much at all. Absolutely scared stiff of going forwards. But 0-3  and Barnes in front can do that to you.

His passing was abhorrent. He misplayed simple passes, and skewed almost all his clearances. Inexcusable.

The frustrating thing is, he has it in his locker (as they say).

Based on what? The fact that he can play well against MK Dons?

He’s had some tremendous performances for us on more than one occasion, and against top level opposition (remember the Liverpool game and the changing room Salah photo). Today he looked unfit and at times it seems like he’s told not to cross the halfway line

Even if we allow for the fact that one might call 'assisting' the cup final winning goal a brilliant performance, literally when has he put in a 'brilliant performance' against a team that isn't shit?

He was still brilliant in the cup final win despite his involvement in the goal?

Against Liverpool last season up against Salah?

Just don’t get how he’s not significantly improved his upper body strength - gets bullied far too much. Early on you can understand it but he’s had a few years now at the top level. There is a quality player there, he’s shown it but needs to get more physical and compete more.

Pretty much this. I’ve thought it for a while now.

We’re in a tough spot with full backs, right now. But nothing is going to convince me, anytime soon, that this lad is a good enough player at this level. Weak, slow, limited. He gets game time because our other players are injured.

For the number of games he's played for us, yes he had a very decent game vs Liverpool and a couple of OK performances but other than that it's mostly been pretty dire! That's not someone who shows promise. He needed to go out on loan last season, unfortunately due to the situation with injuries he was thrown in and that has hindered him. Now it's catch 22.
