I have noticed Ricardo's positioning in the last few games is quite narrow, is this a managerial choice? He was literally playing as a 3rd CB when Karlan Grant scored for WBA the other week at the KP - Ricardo has always been fairly good positionally.

We had all the momentum going into half time, we needed a second before the break to ease the nerves, were a team starved of confidence at the minute, which comes from a multitude of things in my opinion, not just the managers lack of stature and these so called ''senior players'' throwing their dummies out.

It does make for a grim watch, but as the old saying goes.....keep the faith

He's doing it because he doesn't back his pace anymore. So he's giving wingers an extra yard now to allow him to recover.

Strongly agree with your other part of your post. We should have made that second half a proper horrible watch. Slowed it right down from 46th minute game. Every thing played on delay. We don't do the goalkeeper injury thing like everyone else or the head injury. We have zero smarts in this squad how to be horrible.

Italians played with the dark arts for years, its about time we started using our head and managing games better - especially when in other areas (fitness/ability) we are clearly lacking

He was pants on Saturday other than a 25/30 minute spell when we were on top.

That said, I do think we struggled when Monga came on, Mav's worked pretty hard 1st half defensively. Protected LT to some extent.

We've not had it for years. It feels almost deliberate.

No means a dig at Monga, he could do with coming on a in a few games where we are 2-0 up and have time to shine.

We've been 2 goals up 5 times all season. Not a luxury this manager provides.

I feel for Monga. When he first came into the side he looked so exciting & fearless. Fast forward 20 odd games under Marti and he looks a bit lost.

Not blaming him, he’s 16 and very very raw just an observation. All part of the development and these games will be very beneficial to him

Tbf we did the goalie thing away to Bristol City and it actually helped us in that it slowed their momentum for a period in the second half.

You're right though we need to be more cynical (professional?) more often, but it's been an issue with us for years.

Soft as shite physically and mentally.

I dont boo him, but refuse to clap him when his name is read out. Should not be playing at this level.

Thought there was a clap missing when his name was read out last week. Keep up the good work pal.

I think in the context of the post you have quoted, £5mill refers to the wages over the extended contract. Not the bid from Hoffenheim.

How much do we think he is on? Even £40k per week over the additional 3 years (not including this season) is £6,240,000.

Truly a false economy. The question is, do we think a sensibly run club could have found a better player than Thomas in a lower league or abroad for the same outlay? Let’s say £3mill transfer fee and half the wages, £20k p/w. Easily yes. They’d have some of that saving left over. But our lazy board think wages don’t seem to count in PSR terms and that extending the contract of a player who is not performing is somehow better than actually scouting a replacement!

Not quite, seen and heard certain fans say we were offered £5m for him. The fact is the bid was 1.5m euros - made so much sense to sell anyway without taking wages into account even without hindsight.

But now his value is falling the more he plays, and he's damaging the team's prospects. And as you say, when you take the wages into account, it's even worse.

Pathetic display on Saturday, got put on his backside numerous times and outmuscled on every occasion. Honestly think he would still look average in league 2.

How can he look his teammates in the eye after his feeble defending cost us the game. He's so shit I feel embarrassed for him. Marti should've made him do a post match interview, so he could explain why he decided to dive to the ground, with 5"7 Sakamoto behind him.

Every time Thomas passed the ball to Monga he slowed down then passed it behind so he had to stop.

It’s like he’s never watched a high level full back and even tried to imitate.

Whats frustrating is we constantly get opened up by simple 1-2s.  Marti never sets up the team to attempt them, otherwise he would be going metal when Thomas stands still and Mav/Ayew never pass the ball.

At some point you realise your tactic doesn’t work and think if you can’t beat them, join them. Not our brain trust in charge of tactics.

He’s the absolute pits at this level.

I regularly get pelters for this but I genuinely don’t think he’s even top half of league two standard.

In his first games he was given next to no defensive duties and the senior players were seeking him out at the right moments. I cant remember the PL game i first saw him at at home, but he was allowed to stay high up the pitch and i remember seeing (i think) Justin and Soumare pick him our very carefully. All he had to do was use his tricks.

As he has bedded into the team and even started, he's had to gradually up his work rate and part of that is the dirtier work that a 16 year old is going to really struggle with in the Championship. Over time, the other players aren't covering for him. Its a hard learning experience for sure. I reckon its still better than him coming on for 20 minutes with us 2-0 up and seeing out games.

If we can improve, i think he will kick on for sure.

I just want us to have 2 energetic fullbacks that can bomb forward but don’t get bullied physically

Let’s not run before we can walk. I just want one that wouldn’t get physically bullied by a mouse.

He would be an average player at Shrewsbury Town FC, should never of had is contract renewed, but it's hardly surprising that he did given the state of the club.
