Hope it's not flash in the pan, that 2nd innings.

Ideally you want that to be the first innings score to pressure the opposition. And you'd expect the lowly first innings scores to be the second innings scores once the pitch has deteriorated. Odd how it panned out.

Lords ballot - two tickets secured. I've got a £300 hole in my bank account but outside of an Ashes test, that's going to be as good as it gets.

Always fancied Lords but in the past 2-3 years prices seem to have gone mental. I can't justify £150 just for the ticket, add in the travel and the day out you're probably looking at a £250 day, that's half my mortgage lol

We've got day 2 of the Oval test. Hopefully there's something still riding on the series but nonetheless it's a great day out

I paid £70 in the winter before Covid ready for the summer, obvs cancelled and full refund. This is double plus some. Only thing with test match cricket is that you do get your monies worth compared to other sports.

Thank you to Steven Finn for calling out the obsession with the Ashes we have in this country. We seem to treat other series as a development, warm up routine for the "real thing". We have recently lost in Pakistan, thumped in India, never win in the Caribbean and have a difficult trip to New Zealand, a very good Test side. Would be nice if we won elsewhere, too., rather than focusing on the usual trouncing we get Down Under and rinse and repeat.

England team for the first test.

Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ollie Pope (wicketkeeper), Ben Stokes (captain), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Shoaib Bashir.

Tough start for Bethell and Pope takes the gloves so moves down the order.

Obviously gone for the 4 seamers.

Baptism of fire for Bethell. Root will do anything not to bat there lol

Interesting how Pope does with the gloves. Also Stokes down at 7, I know he's never been one who cares about his average but going to be tough if he's batting with the tail all the time. Could have some fun though.

Begs the question - why take 3 spinners and no reserve w/k? NZ is never going to the country to have 3 spinners, and if an injury to the w/k, which has happened before, a (proper) reserve should be in the squad.

I heard David Lloyd talking earlier.

He was saying the Tests are being played on drop in pitches. These apparently dry out very quickly, so maybe NZ is much different than it was.

3 is still too many, especially when Root is more than handy.

Why are attendances so bad for the T10? Not like the players are unknown. There's some big names on show and decent squads.

Has it always been like that?

As always, So jealous of anyone who is able to go on away tours like this. A ground basically in a park. Travelling English always help but it's a great sight.

Never been to NZ, but have been fortunate enough to see England play twice in South Africa & Barbados, also managed a trip to Zimbabwe in 1996.
Have met some great people. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone with an interest in cricket/travelling etc.
