Why can't leicester defend set prices anymore?

Recommended Posts

We need to get Fofana and Justin down the Gym they get bullied too easily at times. Also opposition tend to target Tielemans on set pieces. Its not even hieght its just stength. Zonal marking isn't very good and Schmeichel doesn't claim corners.

We have been REALLY poor on corners and set pieces for 2 or 3 seasons now. It`s not good enough, look around you at the KP when the opposition have a free kick or similar, people cover their eye`s!!

Junior school football...............put full backs on the posts for corners and attack the bloody ball on crosses and set pieces................rant over!!

We did score from a set piece last week even though Harvey’s shank wasn’t part of the training routine

True lol

it is an area we surely could be doing better at though. We are certainly losing out on a handful of cheap goals and points

I like the OP's insinuation that somebody at the club sat down behind their desk one day and thought "Scoring from and defending set-pieces?  We'll have no more of that ta." lol

If this hasn't happened, I can't think of a better explanation

I’m sure I heard a commentator say the other day when they were looking at the corner stats in one of our recent games that zonal marking is the more effective approach around Europe at the moment statistically, just seems that we aren’t very good at it.

Maybe the problem is that we're just not a big, physical team. Look at Everton by comparison - they have Holgate, Keane, Mina, Godfrey, Doucouré, DCL and Richarlison, who are all tall players who win a lot of headers. We have Evans, Fofana and Wilf and that's pretty much it. It's why it would be great if Kasper was one of those keepers who came and dealt with lots of crosses.

We have a fairly small team, especially before Ndidi came back, think we were only playing with about 3 outfield player at 6ft plus which seems very low.

Also found this article: https://fosseposse.sbnation.com/2020/2/10/21131550/shortest-tallest-team-premier-league-leicester-city-manchester-city-bournemouth-crystal-palace#:~:text=This gives a rough idea,a league average of 181.6.

Shows us to have the 3rd lowest average height in the league, with Bournemouth being relegated, we're probably now the 2nd lowest.

The one team below us is Man City who face far less set pieces than us anyway.
