It hardly gets mentioned but the difference is unbelievable  reserves won at Leeds in a canter then we lost at home a 5 goal turn round  Fulham won tonight in second gear  home never looked like winning. I wonder if we lose 4-0  at home to Liverpool to ensure we probably do worse at home than away against virtually everybody. Last year we must have had a record for a   premier league turnaround  a 2-1 defeat  to Southampton at home after a 9-0  win away a 10 goal turn  around  which was unbelievable but drew hardly any comment. I  wonder what odds  you would get on us winning away against the remaining games to teams lost to to date at home. Wolves could prove me wrong but I  think we will  at least equal a 1-0 victory

It’s not just us, 10 teams have picked up more points away than at home this season so far.

United, Us, Everton, West Ham, Villa, Tottenham, Leeds, Arsenal, Brighton and Fulham are the 10 if anyone was wondering!

United have got 10 more away points from home which is the same as us.

I think it's most likely that clubs will come to The KP and set up to defend and counter which we can struggle against.  At home, the onus is on teams to attack.

It's a strange season, and there are no fans.

Agreed. It's almost as if there's a correlation between those two things. The home advantage the fans bring is gone but the opposition still has the ambition and desire to beat us on our home ground.

Behind closed doors is simply the reason. 5 away wins out of 5 games wouldn't happen any other season. It's a bit of an anomaly.

A lot will be made of this but I reckon only Brighton winning at Liverpool is truly surprising. Aston Villa v West Ham looked a close match but not shocked by the other three wins.

I don't really think there is much difference playing at home or away without fans. Maybe we feel more pressure to force the issue when we're at home but imo I think everyone is just reading too much into it and it's just one of those anomalies

Just proves that no fans is the anomaly.

West Ham's stadium is full of toxic fans.

They're thriving behind closed doors.

It's a worthy hypothesis, yet if the desire of the opposition is to win on an away ground, then is it not equally as likely that the home team has the pride of the individual professional and the team élan to warrant a stern defence of the home turf?

Is this a polite way of saying home teams can't be arsed to put in an effort without the crowds there to demand an effort.

The first examination should be of the team selection and then individual performances. You could follow that with an analysis of the manager's in-match decisions and strategy/tactics.

I suspect too, but that many players find playing in an empty stadium a difficult situation to adjust to.

In order to prove this theory we need to see the end of the season (play each team at home and away) . Because If Leicester is worse in home games, this means our opponents must be better in away games against us.  With current incomplete data , one may assume its root cause is the lack of fans but i dont buy in that because fans have pros and cons. Put aside fans, playing on a pitch you are accustomed to is a tactical advantage if neither our team nor our opponents can not benefit this advantage it is most probably due to the fitness, strength and tactics.

I think this is quite simple:

1) Many teams in the PL play better when given space behind the defence to exploit.

2) This lends itself to a set-up in away games, when usually the home team take the onus to attack and the away team can sit and counter.

3) This can be a tactical advantage to help away teams. However, the presence of passionate home fans usually neutralises the tactical advantage BUT....

4) There are no fans. And still the home teams are taking the onus to attack.

5) Advantage - away sides. Which is shown in the massive swing towards teams taking points and wins away compared to before.

The stat on MOTD was interesting at the end

There was a fairly consistent 40% ave. away win

This season is totally anomalous with 50%+ away win

shows the impact of fans…. I thought it was quite insightful

edit - presumably the above stat is for a non draw result?
