could Barnes play the Vardy role with Kel something to look at when Vardy retires

I’d thought this - esp as Vards is playing off the left where Harvey likes to attack from

When Vardy was out injured ,I Really Wanted Rodgers to the These Two together, giving Barnes the responsibility & reins ,to find those forward channels, that Vardy find..but in his own style ,and not to try and expected to be  Vardy Mark II...

I believe Barnes & Nacho could be a Good forward pairing...also a Vardy & Barnes span,

with Barnes playing a more or a mixed Inside forward WB role, according to games or Rodgers thoughts & needs..!!!

Some posters, just seem they cant understand that todays players are capable of interchanging positions across 1-2 lines, und Open Channels they might arent normally  expected to...

When I suggested...Ricardo, Castagna, Thomas could Play WBs,  or Fofana/Evans/Soyuncu could Play the Bline,

even many Good balanced posters,  laughed it off und played it down has nonsense....

The old Days have long gone, European Teams take it in their stride, when team managers decide to Experiment ,

& look to utilise mixed Skills within their squad...

Too many fans hold onto their belief they would make decent Coaches & can Read What s best for their teams,

but only see fixed, single-boxed positions.!

One of the necessary foresights, is to be flexible in thought look into your team and recognise various players

various skills, then look into your team/across across the lines & channels to see which players

can play across a mixture of 'Spans'  Based on  thoughts or ideas in managers/coaches selections...

Every start to a Match thread, we have posters who see the selection & cant see beyond old Formated formations....

Or managers might want to try something in formation but are more than prepared with their players

to change the base formation tactics...

What fails/Works against 1-3 Teams doesn't necessary click against others..!!

Even in their best runs, Klop & Pep ( or Top managers) will actually Tweek & tinker slightly with Set ups,

with same players over various game periods...

Injuries or questions of loss of form, will obviously Force different thoughts & needs onto managers...

Often Stars are born in such situations..!!

Here is the full move for our second goal in GIF form. I love this goal! This is what a top coach brings to a team... look at the way we build the ball from the back through most of our team. We transition the ball from side to side to drag United's deep block around. Then we go back to make their midfielders and forwards push up to exploit the space in behind them. Finally if you are a believer in Vardyism, you see the messiah quite literally part the red sea with a great off the ball run to allow Youri the time and space to drive into the gap and slot home.

Man United were awful in this move, but this is fabulous football. Hard to believe we have a team that plays this way and we can do this to Man United and make them look like a pub team.

If this was Barcelona, it would be on every twitter feed and highlight reel going. This is world class football

Considering it's not actually all that long ago that we were watching cloggers like Wayne Brown hoofing it into orbit at every given opportunity, it's remarkable how composed and classy on the ball our defenders are. Little flicks round the corner, passing through opposition presses, the odd Cruyff turn. So good to watch and obviously also massively helpful with regards to keeping the ball and sustaining pressure.

It ended up working out in this clip but i wish castagne was able to offer on the left what he offers on the right. In this clip alone you can see he really doesnt look comfortable attacking down that side and is easily forced to pass backwards, recycling the ball is fine but he rarely tries the alternative of making something happen, which is frustrating as we've all seen what he's capable of on his favoured side.

Very much reminds me of the goal Argentina scored at the 2006 World Cup - and no this isn’t just a way to shoehorn in the wonderful Esteban Cambiasso.

Whilst not quite having the intricate passes around the penalty area, the appreciation of space and awareness of where each teammate was is very similar in both strikes. In a similar vein, the two passages of play very quickly switched from moving the opponents around with passes to very quick and incisive one touch play when there was room to exploit. Sign off a well-drilled and well-coached team.

Absolute perfection. There’s a moment there where the team seems to collectively just say “go” - Cags passes to Fofana, who immediately starts the move off and Tielemans pulls Matic out of position to create space for the 1-2 with Nacho. Just sublime movement, like a sodding chess match.

I cannot stress how good a job Rodgers and his coaching team have done with our side. Make no mistake about it, this is down to countless hours on the training ground, making information accessible to all players in a very digestible way so they know what to do and when. Look at every phase of play in this move and don't just look at the ball, but what's happening around and off the ball. Track our players movements and their body movement. They are constantly making space for overloads, getting in between the lines, peeling off the last man, standing in the right positions for a turnover, etc.

Incredible to see the team play this way.

Thank you. The word I think of is "instinctual" as they don't need the time to think about it. Still don't think our Tempo has hit top speed yet and believe we have more gears to go. Watching some of our one touch moves sometimes feels more like telepathy than football. So nice to see Rodgers at a club with so many players physically and mentally capable of playing this way.

I get your point but feel that is harsh on Castagne! There is a clear point in that move where he could have driven into the box and crossed with his left foot, but he does do this for us on occasion. For me both him and JJ are improvements over Chilwell in that position despite neither being naturally left footed.

But it’s fair to say that Castagne looks better on the right hand side than the left.

There were people in my household who were complaining that we were passing it back too much so I started explaining the concept of moving the opposition players around and literally as I was explaining about drawing the Utd players forward to create gaps in behind, Youri exploited the space created by just that (as well as Vardy's run) and slotted it in lol

To be fair, to many it can often look like overplaying the ball. During our worst games under Rodgers we often look like we are playing peak Puel-ball or we can’t string together more than three passes. Sometimes it can look poor.

But at the same time the best teams tend to be proactive and dominate the game. Our title winning side beat plenty of top teams, but they  were not capable of pinning a top team in their own half and sustaining an attack for 30+ moves very often. For this goal, Man United are chasing shadows despite having a starting XI that cost over 400m to put together.

Thanks for sharing the gif - fantastic to re-watch and really shows the tactics at play. I think it’s an English football fans’ mentality to want 100% aggressive attacking all the time, the “get into ‘em and get it up there” mentality that is bred into players and fans from a very young age. That’s why an English crowd will get restless or berate a pass backwards. This clip shows what purposeful passing can do - it’s not tiki-taka for the sake of keeping possession, the whole team is working to creating an opening and being patient about it. That shows great faith in the coaching and the team collective.

Remember, at this point we’ve been pegged back after being gifted a lead and it’s the quarter final of the FA Cup with both teams probably aware that the draw (which, oddly, took place at half time) has placed them against the lowest-ranked team in the semi finals on current league positions. It’s a hallmark of some of our best performances this season that we are not phased or panicked into chasing things or grabbing at chances. The team continues to follow the playbook - as we did when behind vs Man City and Liverpool and many other sticky points. It’s great to see.

Agree with this. Castagne hasn’t re-scaled the heights of his first few weeks after injury and then switching to the left side. I actually thought Ricky P started getting comfortable there after half an hour or so, easily making himself a left back option. I’m comfortable with any of Castagne, Perreira, Justin or Thomas playing there in what can be a troublesome position - we are pretty lucky to have that. With three of them at least equally comfortable at RB, we have a great set of full backs when fit.
