Southgate must be relived inside if TAA is crocked, means he doesn't have 5o bat away questions about why he isn't playing him, bet it hurt he had to pick him in the first place. Don't get what he's got against the lad, this season; first half especially he wasn't at it, but he was one of if not the best rb in world football before that and barely got a sniff at international level. Often a case of better the devil you know but I really can not wait until Southgate is replaced.

Who would you like to replace him? Our cup hardly runneth over...

Someone who's Premier league or international quality. Southgate is a championship manager at best, think his cv backs that up its not a slight just what he is.

The problem is, the really top club managers usually prefer staying as club managers - they like the day-to-day interaction with players. Who do you think we could persuade to take the job who would be a major step up from Southgate?

That’s Trent confirmed out of the tournament. Shame.

Replacement won’t be announced until after the Romania game.

He'll take Ward-Prowse now surely, we've hardly any centre-mids.

You'd hope so. Especially losing Trent's set pieces, Ward-Prowse can produce a decent one himself

But surely if that was his thought process he’d have done so before?

I think he's such a blinkered idiot he reckoned he could use TAA as a CM in a pinch and that's how he talked himself into taking him,

Bit of a Segway....

Just watching the Euro U21 game between Netherlands and Germany.

Why do you think countries like this take advantage of those who have gained citizenship but could play for another country, whereas England never seem to?

Case in point Nmecha is capped at U21 level for England but turns out for Germany now. Their striker is Kosovan and they have a Turkish midfielder.

Do you think it’s down to the players? Don’t feel an affinity to the country having been here 5-10 years whereas those in Netherlands/Germany are more patriotic? Or is it the other way round and we are protective over wanting purely “English” players?

He claimed the other night that was never the case. It’s such a weird one.

We've more centre mids than centre halves or strikers have we not?

Hands up, I've only just realised Phillips is in there. Mind you, he's crocked and all isn't he?

Yeah, got injured last game of the season and if he got a flare up of the same injury we'd need a doctor/physio to fiddle it in order to call up a replacement, likewise Henderson or Maguire. Very risky.

Southgate said last night he is fit but then one knock on the shoulder and it could be trouble.

You can see Henderson pulled up at some point too.

Even Grealish is having to manage his injury..

Consequence of a brutal and relentless season. I don't blame him for picking a few of them, the one that looks odd is Henderson as he's been out for months and you can't just quickly get fitness back. He needs games and not sure where he gets that environment without it being costly to the team.

If Maguire isn’t fit they might go for a CB but then there is an issue with Henderson too.

Typical England - always have injuries to content with !

I mean..... to be fair, its hard to say "aw poor England have injuries" when we (Scotland) might be losing 6 players to Covid.

I think with both Henderson & Maguire, if it's a 23 man squad rather than 26, at least one doesn't go. The larger squad allows them to go as good leaders in the camp with the potential of being able to play in later rounds.

Think we will really miss Maguire, our centre back options are really poor.

Even with a fit Maguire, central defence would be our Achilles’ heel. Defence used to be our strongest area - it was further forward that we fell short; now it’s the other way around.
