Group is tasty isn’t it:

- Croatia: revenge

- Scotland: goes without saying

- Czech Republic: Slavia players

I genuinely hope we crash out of this tournament because "Yes man" Southgate is clueless and a bottler when it comes to the crunch at this level.  Such a negative approach to squad selection.

Worst case scenario is we do well and keep him on until the next tournament where he chokes us once again.

If Lingard has been dropped from the big squad why is he playing against Austria? Am I missing something? Did I see this correctly?

Bit like redundancy pay when you get sacked

Weve actually taken 4 right backs 🤣

I thought he'd take max 3.

So People Dont like the manager, so they want England to fail....

You must all have had Grandads who thought the same about Ramsey...in fact every England manager, that comes along..!

Gutted had Watkins to go at 18/1, chance of circa £150 profit.  Got my hopes up on the leaked news of Greenwood and Lingard.....but no taking 4 right backs was more important.

What are the expectations in general?

Unfortunately, first knock out stage against one of Portugal or France. If Germany sneak into the top two places in that group, I'd make us 50/50 to go through against them even with home advantage.

Might be a good idea if we play France and want to do a job on Mbappe.

Same issue remains that an injury to Kane will likely bugger us.  With all the attacking wingers we have, seems a shame to force a 5 back.

Grealish and Sterling wouldn't play on the right. Grealish could take Mount's position you'd think, or be cover for it. I think that's another reason why you'd have someone like Lingard/Ward-Prowse as back up in that LCM position if Grealish and Sterling will play RWF.

Repeating the Hodgson 2016 mistake in  leaving an in-form midfielder out of the squad in favour of a half-fit Henderson. Something like 75% of our goals at the last two tournaments  have been via set pieces and he leaves Ward-Prowse at home.

Remember the quote

Quote

“I never pick on reputationform has to come into it,”

Southgate, 2017

Explain Jesse Lingard then. Explain 4 right backs. A simple bottle job in not telling players like TAA & Grealish - who has missed two training sessions this week - that they're missing out.

Can't see such a one-dimensional & predictable team making it past the QFs.

Southgate putting a lot of pressure on him and the team .

If we don’t reach the semis will he leave ?

To be fair, England should be getting to the semis (coming from a non-England supporter for context). The group is easy, should finish top. As long as France don't finish 2nd, the Last 16 should be doable (don't see Portugal as much of a challenge and I have doubts about my team Germany, real mixed bag). Also, England would be playing at Wembley for this. The QF could at "worst" be Spain (who are not as strong as years gone). Then it's the semis/final with home advantage for England and I think that can be a huge advantage.

6 out of 7 games could be played at home at Wembley. It is very much like a home tournament which can make a difference. If England can get their act together then there is no reason they can't go all the way. However, this relies on form and finding the right balance in the team selection. For me, there is no clear favourite. France and England are probably at the top but closely followed by Italy (young team who could go on a good run), Netherlands, Belgium (although I am always doubtful of them), Spain cannot be discounted. I see Germany as a potential dark horse, have been off the boil for a few years now but the squad looks OK, however, a very tough group means we have as much as a chance of winning the tournament and getting knocked out in the groups.

Other teams that may surprise, Denmark (who are in an easy ish group), Turkey (young and talented team) or Ukraine. Very open tournament which should make it interesting.

We thought Iceland would be easy and all the teams in our group are better then them but yes on a good day we ought to beat them.

Our record in the Euros isn’t great and whilst I agree Germany are very beatable Portugal are a very good technical side who can get goals from anywhere.

Maybe their defence will be a weak point but so is ours.

Least Harry Kane won’t be taking the corners this time !

Wouldn't be England without some injuries issues and key players out of form .

Home advantage might make the difference providing a decent number of supporters are allowed in.

Really lacking a world class CM, CB, and GK aren't we. Can't we convert Grealish into a Tielemans type role, strikes me as the sort of player that could play almost any position.

I'm just worried that a lucky run to the semi's will give us another 4 years of Southgate.

Would anybody take getting binned out at the group stage just to ensure it meant a new manager?

I know what you mean but I'd rather we just had an FA that could look at things objectively in the first place - if that's what we're relying on to do well in the long run we're just simply not going to get anywhere.

I'm no Southgate fan but I don't know who they would get in his place. I see no obvious replacement - not that I'm using that as a sole justification to keep him.

Basically just admitted Hendo and Slabhead are doubts “they’ve got a lot to do” 😩

I can't remember a single England tournament where we were relying on players being fully fit that weren't, where we ended up using them and it being a success.

Play a half fit Maguire against Germany and it's going to be brutal. Even this Germany.
