I think the explanation of that is more about other teams than England. Apart from France no other team strikes me as front runners for the tournament. All major nations are having issues and England and France are probably best positioned to go far. Belgium is the other obvious choice but I get the sense that their golden generation is on the wrong side of their peak and aren’t as strong as two years ago.

We have a squad that could win the euros but we won’t with Southgate in charge. He can’t or won’t coach dynamic enough football - we actually have decent enough attacking players but he compounds any deeper creative issues with his selections.

England don't have the level of player that the likes of France or Belgium do, and we just don't have the level of intelligence of the Spanish.
