Rashford’s penalty was shocking he’s certainly got to take a share of the blame

Players have penalties saved, and its one of those things. There is no excuse for missing the target. Every penalty on target has chance of going in, even bloody Kermogants had a chance, but if you miss the target you have no chance. Indefensible to miss the target.

Well if my memory serves me correctly you said Southgate takes 100% of the blame. Sort of suggests Rashford/Sancho aren't to blame at all? Or are you one of these 110% sorta guys?

So I did. Let’s call it poetic licence!

Of course they’re partly to blame but Southgate yet again failed to spot what was in front of him that the game was changing and then brought 2 players on who’d barely kicked a ball all tournament.

Yes so he trusts them to do it. They didn't. So how is the blame on all Southgate? Why not some of the players as well?

Tbf I am mainly blaming him for the way he handled the game from the 10th min. Just awful game management. So so so negative. And then to bring them 2 guys on to take pens and they both miss was a shocker. Only to be made worse by letting our most inexperienced player take the decisive pen! Inexcusable management and he will rightly be sacked.

Why not use subs to win the game, rather than use them to take pens?

Sorry but expecting two lads who have been on for 90 seconds to take the big penalty of their lives is their lives is awful management.

It is I’m afraid

I hope he has some answers because he’s really fooked up at the end there has Southgate

If Southgate takes the blame for losing this, does he get credit for getting England to the final?

He’s had the credit already …….now he takes the stick …..that’s how it works at he highest level

we go again in Qatar …….

It's not on Southgate, where are the more senior players stepping up? Grealish, Walker, Shaw? Why is a 19 year old going "I'll take the 5th" and the team letting him.

Harsh on Walker, he'd gone off lol

Well no. Have you ever played football before? It's far easier to put the ball where you want it when you're not knackered.

Italy were much the better side on the day and deserved to win.

Southgate had the attacking players..& blew selection & subs..

Italy played us well in the 2nd half...but we were pushed on the backfoot,by our own defensive thinking manager..

and putting Sancho & Saka on penalties, just quite pathetic management, even if they put their names up,a Good manager protects them..!

But Strangely enough, I would still Keep him on...he s given the squad more belief...

Heartbreaking. Didn’t lose all tournament. Conceded two goals. Poor penalties are what have stopped us  but what a ride. What a tournament. Proud of the team. Proud Englishman. We’ll be back. One day, it will happen. At least all you doom & gloom merchants have got something to moan about. Enjoy it.

We could have built on the first half but chose not to, it’s on Southgate and whilst I’m gutted I’ll stick by my opinion of him not being the right man, and trust me I wanted to be proven wrong with bells on.

Positives for southgate got us two a final without losing a game in 120 minutes of football and only letting in two goals all tournament.

Painful glad to have break from footy now.

I could ask you the same question …

I've always sort of defended players who do what Rashford did, some players do something weird every single time they take a penalty. It's clearly something they practice and that they're comfortable doing. However there is a time and place for it, and any time you miss a penalty under those circumstances you're going to look an even bigger idiot. Add to that a major international tournament penalty shoot out? JUST TAKE IT NORMALLY!!!!

He's the manager though. Needs to manage that situation.  I agree though that it's disappointing that those players mentioned didn't step up. Lack of bravery sums up the night

with the quality we had from the bench that was shocking game management

Has been the whole tournament hidden behind playing teams we should be beating.

Even Germany. Who have been a poor side for about the last 5/6 years

I agree Bert but I feel very confused and let down by giving that last penalty to Saka

THAT was poor poor management. Couldn’t he see how the kid had played tonight?

Utterly bewildering

A great ride, a great tournament, well done England.

We go again in Qatar (if we make it)

With Southgate it’ll likely be another tournament wasting Foden and Grealish watching from the sidelines

Still won the fa cup so I will just stick that on now… but yeah people putting Southgate down yet he delivered a night of football that no England fan in 55 years has had a chance to see, their team in a major final. Harsh but did a lot better than I thought we would do.
