Getting this guy and Noni Madueke is really going to p*** off Spurs Supporters for years

It is well documented that Tielemans agent wanted to wait and see what, if any, other offers came in but Youri insisted on signing for us. it will get really interesting though when we are are in a straight fight with the likes of Spurs, or even one of the top clubs elsewhere, for a player. Assuming all else is roughly equal (wages etc ) i suspect that we may well have the edge currently. There is of course the draw of playing for a big name club, but with our reputation for developing talent, the new facilities at Seagrave and our standing as having the best owners, who seem to value and stand by their employees (James, Morgan, Fuchs etc) then add in the fact we are definitely on the up, i would say we hold the best hand.

Don`t you think Vestergaard feels more like a Jonny type of player than Fofana? He won't break from defence to release the pressure, but he is solid (ish) and can pass. Saying that I can see both in this weirdo transfer window, if like with Daka and Bouba , the fee/terms can be flexible/future loaded.

Yes, Vestergaard is not like Fofana at all but Rodgers said the plan wasn't to get a Vestergaard type experienced signing until Fofana was injured. Even with Evans being out thr club weren't looking at another experienced defender so that tells us we weren't concerned about how long Evans might be out for.

Yes, the rhetoric backs this up, but this is Jonny’s first problem, and there has to be concern. Perhaps it is nothing to worry about, but I reckon we will see another young CB arriving before Madueke Dan James finally rocks up on loan.

U21 require no registration

Somebody needs to work out what we can and cannot do given that we have already taken on four new players and so far lost none. With few days left now we need to loan out three or four players and that is easier said than done.Actually I'll correct myself ,we have lost two but gained five with KDH.

The last week or few days of the transfer window will be frenetic, either that or we plan to make every player have face surgery to look the same. I observe the initial efforts with Dennis Albrighton and Marc Praet with suspicion.

It's plenty far away in the sense that Justin isn't likely to be anywhere close to full speed until next season.

As far as Tomiyasu, he's a great guy to have because you don't have to worry about where to fit him - he can start anywhere on the back line and be effective.  I don't think JJ is really a CB even when fully healthy and Tomiyasu is probably best as a fullback, so it's not as if their skills totally overlap.

Brendan's latest word on Justin's recovery is October/November. Even taking into account Brendan's habitual over-optimism, and the time to get up to Prem speed, there are grounds for realistically hoping that Justin may only miss half the season, especially when you consider his youth, determination and positive nature which will accelerate his return to fitness.

I do agree that taking the plunge with such a multi-talented youth is the right approach in general, just concerned that the timing right now might be out of sync.

And he'll almost surely be what Ricardo was last season - a shadow of his pre-injury self.  That's how ACL recoveries go.

We already have 4 fully fit full backs though, all of them of which are very very good. Justin poses an issue next season too if all 4 are still here, so why then add a 6th in Tomasiyu? That's 4 players whose best position is right back, oh god its 2007 and I'm reading Martin Allen's daily pre-season diary aren't I?

Because when you have a chance to make progress on your succession plans with a talented young player, you don’t pass it up.

In Tomiyasu, we’re bringing in a defender who can play all across the backline, much like Justin. It remains to be seen if or when Justin will return and ever be the player he was before his injury.

Lil Wes is gone this season. He might not ever return as the same player.

Evans is only running out of time. There’s no guarantee Cags will be with us long-term.

One of the shrewdest moves we’ve made as a club was bringing in Cags a full year before we needed his services. This move would feel an awful lot like that.

Yeah, the squad might be bloated across the backline but in the blink of an eye, we could be left pretty thin in that area in terms of quality.

Bit as Deegs says, he's better at full back and we have 5 of those whom are all good enough for a top 6 PL side. Even if Justin doesn't return to his former potential and ability that's 4 we have. If it was a no brainer as you say it is when good players become available regardless of position you'd see chaos at clubs.

We regularly opt out of signing good young players because we aren't looking for a player in that area.

Sounds like we are looking for a player in that area. :P
