If we are to eventually own the EON building I don’t see any reason why the car park can’t go there instead.

Don't think it would aesthetically pleasing as it will be at the entrance to the development. Car parks are best tucked out of the way, I reckon.

From that perspective I agree. However there would be less requirements for significant road works as it would be next to the main road and it would leave the south stand open to further expansion.

Here is a random thought.

Many people have speculated about reopening the Ivenhoe Line as a dedicated train to the stadium from the outskirts.

Wouldn't it make more sense to tarmac it and make it a dedicated road from the outskirts to parking?

As there are no traffic lights or other stops, traffic could get straight into, or more importantly, straight out of the city for games.

The Ivanhoe line is still used for freight though isn't it, although do those trains go that far?

It's used to carry stuff from the quarries in NW Leicestershire.  Besides not everyone living between Leicester and Burton has or wants to drive car to their many destinations.

Is this the line that runs under Welford Road and past the cemetery?

This line runs between Braunstone and New Parks and out to Coalville before ending somewhere near Ashby. Either as a road or a dedicated train, it could be a very good option.

You can track it on Google Maps. It does join up with the main north/south line to the central train station, so it could ferry away fans too.

I'm not sure if it is still used. When I was a kid there used to be one train a week on the line. I haven't lived in Leicester for 20 years so not sure now.

I think there are a group of people who actively push this idea?

No, it’s the line from Burton to Leicester

Oh ok, on Google Maps it seems to stop at Ashby.

They want to open it up for steam trains to run commercially on it, but it’s still used around bagworth and merrylees for quart stuff

If you care about the atmosphere within the ground post expansion, please take a moment to send an email stating your interest in a safe standing section as part of the development. We have provided a template email on the link below that can be sent to [email protected]

Thank you.

Doesn't take much to ping an email off on a Sunday evening. Realistically we'll get one shot at this.

It continues past Ashby and Moira and on to Burton.

It’s used almost exclusively for stone traffic from Bardon Hill. Trains run between Bardon and Leicester or Burton as required. Through trains running the length of the line are very rare and usually a freight diversion.

There have been mutterings about opening the line to passenger traffic ever since the first phase of the Ivanhoe line was reinstated in the early 90s, but the short of it is the traffic is unlikely to warrant the investment.

Given Aggregate Industries have just been given approval to blow up another fuching big hole to dig out another 130 odd million tonnes of granite over the next four decades, it’s safe to say the line is going nowhere.

Takes two seconds to send the email. If not for you think of future supporters.

With the car park the club have been pretty clever. They've saved themselves hundreds of thousands of pounds in potential highway changes to the main site entrance to the car park that if it were placed anywhere else would mean they owe nothing in bonds to LCC to adopt any changes. The traffic flow to the car park means that pedestrians on foot have the whole site to access off of the main road, stick it anywhere else and you have pedestrian issues. Lastly king power will make a fortune in revenue from parking alone.

I would love to see this done in a sustainable way. But the cost/objections and structural remedies that you get with unused railway lines would be astronomical. Plus there's HS2 and other new connecting rail lines being designed and constructed in the north.

Ivanhoe would easily be into 10 figures.

I believe there's a suggestion to use hydrogen powered trains.

There's talk this week of the Birmingham to Leeds section of the HS2 being cancelled with some experts predicting it'll never get built.

10 figures is more than a billion.

I’m going to assume what’s happen to one stand can therefore be done on another stand due to the similarities of the original build..

Maybe. It just doesn't look like there's a lot of room behind the other stands.

Someone answering a Q&A after the recent announcement did say that further expansion would be possible, but I would be surprised if it's anything major based on the current plans.

If the club has bought the land that the Eon building is on, then maybe the proposed multi-storey car park behind the South stand could be moved elsewhere.
