you should already be on the boat. You should want us to succeed..

was he my first choice? No. Far from it. Just listening to some players interviews  over the years will tell you how important the fans are to a situation like this. We’ve had a reset in manager. The fans need a reset too.

and if he'd played all year he probably would have done pretty well

Or you could look at his final 6 starts in the championship before being dropped where he couldn’t score and made just 2 assists in a team scoring for fun pissing the league, which is more like the Daka we have seen during his career here.

I think at the time this was the realisation for most he was dog shit, and unfortunately that’s pretty much been the case from what we have seen since, just a small purple patch scoring in 5 games in the championship despite currently playing nearly 2 seasons there from a 5 year deal, even though he was signed for a team that had just finished in the top 5 of the Premier league for the second time with high expectations.

The struggles this season continued with even with no Vardy in front of him in the pecking order, which was often used as an excuse for his poor form because of the additional pressures that entailed.

When we got relegated in 22/23 people said Daka and Iheanacho would score for fun in the Championship lol

Never mind that, I could quote a lot of posters that thought ayew would score for fun this season.

Genuinely don’t think the gap as a striker is as much as people think. If you’re shite in the prem, you’re more than likely shite in the champ as well. There’s not many players that I  can think of that can get around 2 goals in a season in the prem but move to the champ and get 20.

In my opinion, in the modern game, striker (ignoring keeper)  is the one that is the easiest to transfer divisions and there’s lots of recent cases to back that up (mitrovic, Toney, Watkins, even all the Luton strikers put up good numbers). I think it’s because as a lone forward you typically get to play in the box more and a chance is a chance at the end of the day. I don’t think teams defend the way they used to (with arsenal an exception this year),  the last few years teams are happy to leave themselves open at the back due to an emphasis on overloading in attacking areas.  Even man city, the best possession team struggled to keep clean sheets over the last few years

I think it is often more in the physical attributes such as pace and power. There have also been some that have excelled at Championship level (such as Billy Sharp and Jordan Rhodes) who never really made it at PL level despite being clearly excellent goalscorers. Whereas those you mention have physically been able to step up and not struggle.

It’s a fair point, but even Billy sharp got 8 goal contributions in his last prem campaign. I just think the games changed a lot in the last 5 years.

He’s a funny one, but might be wrong but only really had one great championship season?

Yes, quite a few have been one season wonders and we’ve been linked to half of them!

Akpom, Vdyra, McCormack, Gray, Graham, Cureton, Ellington, Piroe, Armstrong etc

It’s a funny game though, as Jack Marriott is posting a great goals per minute ratio in League 1 this season. He dint exactly set the world alight at Wrexham.

Sometimes it’s just about being in the right place at the right time.

But he wasn't spurning loads of chances as I recall. We were clearly creating opportunities mainly for our two wingers and KDH/Ndidi.

The striker's role in Enzo's system is not a prolific one in most games, but one that stretches and occupies defenses and creates space for the others to run into.

Don't think Daka's performances were dogshit in that period, but as fans we were getting restless at the lack of goals he was gettin

Whilst seemingly being a decent chap, unfortunately for me, Daka has become almost a comedy character and when he comes on as substitute they should play ‘Bring on the Clowns’ over the tannoy!

Whilst being a willing runner (my Labrador can do this too), at any given time he has a propensity to trip over his own big bungling feet. Sadly now when starts running, I just get a re-run in my minds eye of that old Kiora cartoon advert where the large crow creature bounces the sun/ball to the music and sings ‘I’ll be your dog’.

I challenge you to Google it and watch the YouTube clip and not get a similar experience when he next runs on! Perhaps it could be a new signature tune for him?

Jon, stop trying to justify the new 12 year contract please.

Signed for £20m + and has been here almost 5 years now earning in excess of £3m a year.

Almost £40m hes cost us and hes up there with one of the worst players to wear the shirt over the last decade yet people are somewhat accepting of him because he seems a nice guy and runs a lot.

The blokes an embarrassment to professional football and is the epitome of everything thats wrong with this club and where we find our selves financially.

Just needs a run of games. He'll come good.

Patson runs around trying hard but can not put the ball in the back of the net, which is his main job.

You're right but we don't have an alternative who can put the ball in the net, so we should take 'running around and trying hard' as it's better than ambling around a bit, out of position and falling over.

The alternative is a half arsed slapped walking wasp who dares to wear the hallowed #9 of a former club legend.  Both are the epitome of everything that's wrong with this club.  It's not as if the club had at least 5 years to successfully replace the former club legend  - a complete disgrace.

So a we didn’t have a striker score goals that season, he had a small window of scoring in 5 games and a equally poor run of 6 games before being dropped of not scoring resulting in 4 defeats as previously highlighted this was a player signed for the Prem.

By the end of that season he had a blooper reel of misses and his confidence was shot

I don’t think the original poster asked for examples of strikers that have consistently scored goals in the championship but “if you’re shit in the prem you’re shit in the championship”

He's a willing runner and  has improved in his overall play but still doesn't understand the game.

Too many times he comes back into our half  contributing little while leaving us now out Ball.

He's got to stay up top and create space for others if not goals.

Yeh but he runs about a bit, a strikers main job, none of this accurate shooting and scoring nonsense
