I'm not sure Torino will sign Praet as it is.

They've recently signed Samuele Ricci (who we had been linked with previously) on loan with an obligation to buy.

I'd be happy to have him back here to be honest.

You are not the only one. Brendan has done a few u turns of late though.

Brendan might not have a choice with Youri going and our abysmal league position. He might not be able to attract the players he wants?

I dont think we'll get a better player for 15M, hence I think we should keep him. When Youri leaves, I think he could be an important player for us.

Games Praet came in for in place of Youri in 19/20 in the league:

1-2 southampton wins, praet scores but we were massively overrun in midfield

2-1 Burnley Wins, cant remember but we lost

1-0 Norwich wins, horrible performance

4-0 we win over aston villa

1W 3L

Praet was not good for us in midfield, just had no impact on the game, he seems to have a fanbase generated entirely off of that pass against Brentford and the 'what ifs' from him not playing.

What about 20/21 mate? 😂. He was solid while playing against city in a 5 man midfield, was motm against Burnley when we beat them 4-2 and was key until his injury. By no means not good. He was boarding at thw worst on decent to v good most times. Always solid. And plus Rodgers outcast him because Rodgers is a stubborn piece of work after his injury. He also played as a rm in a 4231 with us and as a rcm...

He was specifically talking about Youri's first full season when we replaced him with praet for a couple games halfway through which is why i only looked at those. I disagree that he was good in 2020/2021 as well, he did decent in a 4 man midfiled when we player 3ATB but only because the extra midfielder covered over his main weakeness which is his lack of influence in matches. When he played in a 3 man midfield that season he was not very good.

So Dennis back with us next season almost certainly so perhaps now we can use him properly. We may just not need a replacement for Youri. Let's hope he doesn't pick up a long term injury.

...strangely enough when we were signing him,  he was touted to be better than Youri!!!

He gas now become very injury prone and that is now the big worry.

I did not see him as better or equal to Youri but he gave us an aspect to the team no one else did, with his attacking runs going ahead of the strikers. When we are looking for support for Daka that type of play would help.

Praet's problem is that Rodgers does not want to play that way.

You never know Praet might be back just as Rodgers leaves.

Didnt watch one of his last games then? He was dreadful against West Ham away.. He was doing well until his injury but then didn’t play much afterwards and when he did he was not good.

Maybe he was just rubbish in training after the injury as well who knows.

Doesn't get on with Rodgers though, to does he?

TBF I seem to remember when he was playing regularly in his first season here, Rodgers was very complimentary of him, along the lines of model pro and consistently good. The problem only came about last season when Youri played 40 in a row, Dennis did his hamstring and then couldn't get back in, even when Tielemans was only 70% and playing twice a week.

Let's be honest, by coming back he'd be saving us 15-20M on a new player and would compliment KDH too. Better to stick with a player we know can be 7/10 every week than risk Congerton dumping another Vestergaard-style panic buy into our midfield.

He's not good enough for a team chasing top 6 but he might be ok for a mid table and below team.

If you look at the table its the usual suspects and West Ham at the top. The Hammers should be a top team based on their massive fan base anyway. If they establish themselves ,we are looking to eight or ninth as our normal most seasons. On that basis Praet is good enough. We can occasionally break the mould but it won't be very often. Our main target is to be the top team in the Midlands and that means finishing in front of Villa and Wolves.

He was never playing regularly under Rodgers unless you count 20 minute cameos.

Quite remarkable that he has somehow managed to be hauled off at half time 5 times then.

22 starts in 2 seasons.  Your definition of "regularly" must be pretty liberal.

It's now being said he is out for the rest of the season. Not sure if it's official but is widely reported.

Based on what he’s done at Torino this season, there is no way they are taking up their option at £15m

we may find a buyer in Italy at around £7.5m …….. with hindsight, a poor signing for £20 m ……..

Given this, id have him back here but we know that’s only an option of the manager goes ……

Still got 2 years left on his deal so unless him and Rodgers make up and he stays here next season I think he will just go out on loan again

In which case we will surely insist on an obligation to buy at the end of the season as he will be entering his final year.

He is unlikely to want a loan so will probably see his contract out and become a free agent. That goes for Perez as well.

And your point is?  (Irony of ironies)

He'll do fine for us in the long run 😅

He wasn't ever quite good enough and with his Belgian compatriots off in the summer, I don't think we'll see him at the KP again

Why wouldn't he want a loan? He can do that while he sees his contract out, anyway.
