I’ve been in and out of FT since almost the beginning and many of you might know me on here for being that Tinder fella who looks like Joe 90 or from the relegation photo when we were sent down to League 1. But I’m not just a hilarious Leicester City fan who was in the papers that one time - I’m also a father to my son Jordan who was sadly stillborn at 35 weeks on September 24th 2020.

I can no longer look after my son in the way I’d dreamt, but I can try to keep his memory alive and try and do something, anything, to raise awareness for baby loss and bereaved parents.

The theme of this years Baby Loss Awareness Week is #BreakTheSilence. I've got a big mouth and an obsession with Championship Manager 0102 and on October 9th at 7am I’ll start playing CM0102 for 24 hours straight at https://twitch.tv/generalsmuts. I’ll be talking openly, earnestly and honestly about Jordan and child bereavement as well as having plenty of laughs and football chat throughout the 24 hours.

I’m not posting here rattling a tin for charity I really want this to be a success and for people to tune in and help me to raise awareness for bereaved parents and to keep my boy Jordan in peoples thoughts.

If you get a chance next Saturday please do drop in and say hello and let me know that I’m not alone screaming into the void. If you’d like to be involved in any way shape of form or know anyone who would be interested in coming on the stream to talk about their own experience with child bereavement - please get in touch either on here or on Twitter @CM0102Smuts. I hope to see as many of you as possible on Twitch a week today.

Much Love

Karl aka General Smuts.

I'm truly sorry for your loss of Jordan, and I wish you every success with this. I'll be honest, I have no idea what Twitch is, but I hope it goes well for you!

Baby loss definitely isn't discussed enough, and particularly amongst men. I've sadly suffered several miscarriages, and my nephew was stillborn at 39 weeks. Each occasion was absolutely horrific, but somehow women seem to talk about it more, even if still not enough. These babies are not 'just babies', they are little people we love as soon as we know of their existence, we name them, imagine taking them to school, to the KP, walking them down the aisle, an infinite number of hopes and dreams are shattered for so many people with each and every loss.

Best of luck Karl, and best wishes to you and your family. You're definitely not on your own x

The loss of the future with Jordan is something I don’t think I’ll ever truly come to terms with. If me speaking about my experience can have any slither of a positive impact on anyone else going through this I feel duty bound to do so.

Thank you so much for your words of support and for so eloquently sharing about your own loss. Please know that your babies and nephew will be in my thoughts during the stream next Saturday keeping me going.

Honestly, I don't think you ever do, it's the little things that get you. The future, and the hopes and dreams that come with that, are the hardest things to lose.

Hats off to you for raising awareness, like I said it's not spoken about enough, even between the actual couple it happens to :(

Good luck with this.

Will give you a follow on Tinder, I mean, Twitter.

Re: rattling a tin, I think people would want to help in a small way, even if they are not good at watching Championship Manager, so if there is somewhere you can direct us, I'm sure it would be well supported.

Edit, just seen the website details.  Durr.

So sorry. The loss you and your partner have suffered is probably the worst kind with few exceptions which I won't mention.

I hope you got the proper support following the birth and loss of your son.

One thing that always struck me as a Paramedic, regarding support is that, on the few occasions I came across parents that had suffered the loss at birth (and then had mental health issues), all said they were discharged from the MU with a leaflet on dealing with grief and the loss of a baby "born asleep" but it seemed, no actual face to face support. It was several years ago and I really hope things have changed.

Saturday is getting closer and closer and just today I've had 5 bereaved fathers with similar experiences to me who have graciously agreed to come onto the stream and talk with me about their angel babies. In a weird way I'm actually looking forward to hearing other fathers stories and giving some a platform, however small, to remember their children.

Please do tune in, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what Championship Manager legends I've managed to sign for Rushden & Diamonds I really would massively appreciate it.

Sorry for your loss mate, absolutely heartbreaking.

I'll tune in, I love CM0102, still play it regularly and get the latest updates.

Is the first 3 hours going to be you on the editor? Then the next 4 hours of you taking over rich clubs and buying your worst players for a fortune to raise funds? lol

I'd go for a 4-1-2-1-2. Tommy Smith from Watford in the number 10 role, with Cherno Samba and Justin Georcelin up top.

And you'll obviously sign the Swedish trio of Kallstrom, Lunden and Selakovic?

I almost forgot Mark Kerr of Falkirk!

Good luck

Hahaha all those players were always signed on a new save of cm01/02. Used to do the same regarding the signing of your crap players. Also made sure id win the Fa Cup in my first season as a conference side to guarentee European footie by taking over my opponents before i played them.

I'm unfamiliar with all of those, apart from is that Teddy Lucic?

It is indeed. 300k well spent. I’ve spent most of lockdown playing the original and he’s an absolute rock.

The main man to watch though is Antchouet. The Gabonese goal machine I’ve nicknamed Chewy. You can keep your To Madeira’s and Maxim Tsigalko’s - Chewy is the real CM0102 GOAT.
