Why!? Because he's made mistakes (like all of us) owned up to them, turned his life around and regardless is one of the greatest heavyweight champions in living memory.

As far as I can remember it's always just been a popularity contest, it rarely seems to be about who has had the best year in terms of sporting achievement. Which in and of itself is very hard to judge anyway given the different types of competition etc.

I don't know why anyone gets riled up about it.
