Selling Maddison this season will show a complete lack of ambition from the club, and acceptance that the club are now happy to make up the numbers in the Premier league. It also sends out a very negative message to the other best players at the club, and to any decent players that might have previously been happy to join us considering us an ambitious club with aspirations. Selling Maddison would be a shocking decision, unless indeed we really are in the mire financially, and need the money.

...what if the situation is, Madders has insisted that any extension should contain an agreement that should a team meet a certain valuation then he has the right to speak to them!!!

He would not wish to be priced out of potential deals, and is looking to safeguard that situation from occurring.

We don't do release clauses or anything like that I am pretty sure, not since Kante and Vardy in 2016

If we were that hard up we would have price Soy and Youri at price clubs can't resist.

I have to think this is true.

I'm assuming the few clubs that are in for both those players are aware that there is not much competition and are waiting us out to get the lowest possible price. If we set tieleman's price to 15 mil they would just try and lowball us to 10 mil, outside of an absurdly low transfer value it looks like they wont be leaving until the end of the window.

We certainly didn't, but I think it's getting increasingly difficult now to get a top player to sign a decent length contract that doesn't have a release clause. I don't  believe Fofana would have signed his new contract without a release clause in it for a certain fee, because otherwise we could make it extremely difficult for him to leave when he wants too, which in all probability will be next summer.  Agents will know how difficult it was for Mahrez and Maguire to get their move. In the end Man Utd had to pay well over the odds for Maguire because he didn't have a release clause, and they could and probably should have walked away from that deal at that price. Mahrez ended up going on strike because he couldn't get his move.  So any worth while agent, i would think, would make sure they had a release clause in their players contract these days.

We don't tie him down to a 5 year contract on higher wages to have him walk a year later with some release clause.

IF there's one in his contract, I reckon it doesn't kick in until 2024 at least

Just to say, whatever the truth in these rumours.  It would actually be more amazing if other clubs weren't interested in Maddison. I honestly think he's going to have a standout season this season, be it with us, or elsewhere.

Maybe, I think it will be a bit like the kante one though. Where he can go for a set fee, to a club in the champions league. The difference being, the fee set for fofana I expect to be set very high, and more towards his true worth.

Agreed - but seriously these threads are insane - Maddison is probably the least likely player to go anywhere outside of vardy - the noise on these threads - can everyone chill out - we will get 1 or 2 in and probably youri will go - as expected- we will be absolutely fine - easy 8th again

Saw the movement in this thread so wondered who the next link was to find its about Maddison leaving.

FFS.

It's depressing this transfer window isn't it. Right now I think I'd be happy with no new signings if we can get Maddison on a long term deal after we managed it with fofana.

It seems ridiculous I agree with that. All I will say is (please accept a huge dose of what-ifs) if we cannot sell anyone else who generate significant cash, if we need to sign some players for reasons we don’t see, if the player is pushing for it, there could be a tiny chance, but none of that seems true from looking at it from the outside.

Well, maybe the selling no-one else bit!  lol

We’ll see movement on transfer within the next two weeks.

How come? Still 6 weeks left.
