One year extension, should be announced this week.

Rob Dorset also reporting the same.

Time to see if Tanner actually does know his onions then, as he reported in The Athletic that a years extension is not on the table as the club don’t want to be in this position 12 months down the line.

A one year extension would mean we can get more for him in January if he decides to go to pastures new.

Hope this is the case, would be very clever, sign a 3 year or risk your world Cup or leave on our terms

These are my thoughts too

he guarantees his wc place by staying with us and playing every week

if we are not competing for top 4/6 come January and he has had a good season and World Cup  then we can try to sell youri in Jan for £40m+

Otherwise we see where we are at the end of may

...not sure why anyone would look to pick him up in the notorious January Window, and at that price!!!

Depends what he’s done up until and during the World Cup.

if they want him next summer he’ll cost £25m so why not pay £40m in Jan to get him into your CL squad

100 pages and the last 50 pages have been backwards and forwards with the same comments. Lock the thread until there's at least some new news.

I'm all for him leaving now and if this was anybody else you would all say the same, yes he has contributed to some great times at the club but he was mediocre all this season. He was clearly holding out for a CL team but that doesn't look like coming to fruition. He could've dealt with his interviews better and if he'd bothered turning up in half the matches, may well have ended up with his move. He may end up now eating humble pie and if he only signs a 1 year extension, why should we be in the same situation a year down the line. As with anybody, if you don't want to play for our team, Leicester City Football Club, then please use the nearest exit.

That Athletic article was written by their Arsenal writer with Tanner.  His points were not happy reading, and I don’t think they’ve received enough play here.

- Arteta wants Tielemans

- Youri not unhappy here, but wants the move

- AFC know they are in a strong position with his contract running out and no competition for him

- AFC happy to wait it out to secure a bargain for someone who at the very least will be a strong rotation player

So if the alternatives are indeed:

- a short term extension, or

- losing him for so little money, so late in the window that we can’t replace him …

… I hope you are right and it’s the extension.

Someone please explain to me why Youri would sign a one year extension. I don't see any advantage in it for him.

If he gets a pay rise, signing bonus plus a  fair release clause that suits both parties.

It could mean he pockets some extra cash, we get a fair fee at the end of the year. If no champions league comes in for him now, it could be the best option for everyone.

As a bonus for us, if he wants CL football, he’ll have to raise his game to ensure one of those clubs notice and take a punt on him.

We can’t keep being held hostage to one players uncertainty (Tielemans). This is madness surely! Set a deadline date and force the player into a corner

Because we may have told him that if he enters the season without signing an extension then he won’t be the first name on the team sheet as has been the case. He isn’t guaranteed a start.  That’s a big risk for him ahead of Qatar

we may be trying to call his bluff too.

Rodgers will always select him while he remains a LCFC player and he remains manager. Whenever he has been left out and we have played poorly , they scream for him to be brought back on here.

Yes we know what will happen -I’m just putting forward an argument for what the club may have told the player to encourage him to sign a one year extension (and of course they will also tell him that they want him to sign for longer than that but worst ways we should end up in the same place next summer as we are now on the back of him playing better - rather than him leave for nowt).

Without the World Cup argument it absolutely makes no sense?? I don’t believe he would turn down the s o fee on offer if he sees out his contract without that.  It’s the one thing that works in our favour and if he played really well then it might help a Jan sale if that suited us.

According to The Athletic, Leicester have not received any offers for Tielemans at this stage of the transfer window.

Part of me isn’t surprised by this. He’s on a big wage and was he worth that money last season?

He’s on less than a fair few players in our squad.

I think around 80k.  Imo, he was worth that last season.  He wasn’t worth the 150k he wants.  But he could be.

https://www.givemesport.com/88025668-arsenal-have-pulled-out-of-move-to-bring-52-cap-star-to-emirates

Arsenal have pulled out of a move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Taylor has told GIVEMESPORT that Arsenal have pulled the plug on Tielemans and things were never as advanced as they seemed.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Express journalist said: “It’s an interesting one. The information I had was similar to others, that it’s been pulled.

“I was told not to write about Tielemans anymore with Arsenal and that it was very much agent-driven and has never been as close as has been suggested, which is strange because all signs were kind of pointing towards Tielemans happening with Jesus in the past few weeks.”

I mentioned the other day that this very much seems like Maddison last summer, just a load of agent talk, rumour mill and never any actual bids

It seems that the last time that anybody made a serious attempt to sign one of our players was Chilwell.
