Oh wow, people were saying Cornwall would see the worst of it but looking at that it looks more like the Midlands/East Anglia bearing the brunt.

Guess who's gotta go back to Norfolk tomorrow from visiting family in Leicester?

A very good example of climate change?

it’s not

To add my own twopence to this, it's probably not caused directly by climate change, but increased global average temperature will cause more extreme events like this to become more likely to occur.

Don't think so mate. Just a freak of nature.

See Michael Fish in 1987.

Once in a generation kind of thing.

As per above:

Oh, another thought.

If your roof is old and falling to bits before the storm, and you think this might be a cushy little opportunity to claim for a new one, the Insurers all use Streetview and Aerial imaging.  :P

Knowledge is power.

Trainline has a ‘Do not travel’ message on the website of the train I need to get. Some cancelled, some showing as delayed.

If I drive in to work I’ll have to pay £15 congestion tax and £12.50 ULEZ tax and about £40 for parking.

It’d be nice if these were suspended for the day when there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to get in to work. 🙄

Is it Bernard Matthews?

Come on, give us a clue.

Well if that's not a recipe for a 'sicky' I don't know what is.

Go back to bed.

It’s definitely not caused by climate change but I agree that across the globe, extreme weather events will become more commonplace because of the general rise in sea temperatures.  Incidentally, there are pretty decent arguments that for our part of nw europe, extreme windstorm weather events will become less commonplace.

on the subject of Eunice, it seems Leics will see max gusts 60/70 mph which is going to cause some problems but not ridiculously unusual.  Meanwhile the sting jet risk seems to be across se england (hence the red warning).  We will know by mid afternoon if there has been one (if there has then that will cause significant damage to property and trees).

Let's not forget, the MSM will ramp up wind speeds and destruction somewhat in excess of reality. The Met office forecasting gusts up to 63mph this afternoon with mean wind speed of around 40 for this region and most other places in the South.

Usually yes, but I don’t think they have with this one. The South looks set to take an absolute pasting today. Im no expert but from memory the Met tend to struggle with scenarios like today as the tiniest change of detail with the low pressure system can change the picture entirely.

Whenever we have stormy weather I always think back to that poor Everton fan that was killed by debris on the way to the ground. I wouldn’t go out today unless absolutely necessary.

Indeed, all those covid reporters with nothing to do will be sent to the tops of hills and cliffs across England !

the issue today is that the strongest winds are coming through during the day when many are out and about. That comes into the judgement by the met office.  And the risks are generated by complex atmospheric models - so there is indeed a correlation with those pesky covid scientists who have to take their cue from their ‘tech helpers’!

perhaps piers Corbyn can be encouraged  to go out with an enormous placard and stand on Waterloo bridge at lunchtime!

What times it due to kick off in Leicester? It looks lovely outside at the moment lol

Between 11am and 3pm (peaking around 1pm).

currently looking like a very windy day for most of s half of England  but that risk of 80/100 mph gusts if that sting jet occurs is the issue
