Joe Mattock.

Can't believe he played for our first team at 16/17 years old, managed 50+ appearances by the time he was 19 years old, and made such a sidewards move.

Realistically he would have been our first choice left back for years to come.

Another to mention is Ross Barkley once class for Everton had a poor season. Left for Chelsea for nothing. Just couldn't ever kick start his career. He went to Villa on loan and for about two months he was back to his best. Then suffered an injury, went back to being poor again

I'm sure I'll get pelters for this but Heskey.

Even towards the end of his time here his pace was going and he was starting to go down too easily and get muscled off the ball by much smaller players. He transitions into a decent target man in a time when target men were being phased out so he had little competition. But the pacey strong Heskey never really existed after the age of 20 or 21.

Mattock was never great and always looked a bit out of his depth though. Even when he was in our first team and when we won League One, most of our fans didn't rate him. He was widely considered the weakest player in our League One winning XI at the time.

He got some hype when he was very young because he was one of the youngest players ever to play for England U21s, which was solely due to injuries and complete lack of English left-backs who qualified. As soon as he actually started playing for the first team we realised he looked out of his depth though.

I think a decent lower Championship/upper League One career at someone like Rotherham was always what he looked like he was going to go on to become.

Tbh even though I went to games then, even when he made his debut (think it was against Birmingham), I can't really remember him in terms of ability. He represented England, a few times, at every level so must have been rated by different managers at the time.

I remember him suffering a bad injury during the League 1 season.

If we’re talking Leicester,

Levi Porter springs to mind. Looked amazing for a few games but then it never really happened for him.

Think he got involved in some dodgy shit

Reminded by his hat trick today, Saido Berahino.

Was touted for big money moved from West Brom, threw his toys out the pram and it all fell apart from there.

I think his off field issues held him back also.

Been done for drink driving so many times.

Luciano Vietto.

Was tipped to have a very bright future as a youngster in Argentina. He was linked to Leicester and Arsenal as a 19-20 year old. Ended up going to Villareal, then got his big move to Atletico Madrid. Failed, went on several loans.

He's now in the Saudi Pro League, on loan from one Saudi club to another
