I don't know if the stat is available on another thread but for the record the 2nd leg against PSV will be our 38th match in all European competitions.

The breakdown is:

Champions League 10 matches (2016/17)

UEFA Cup 4 matches (1997/98 and 2000/01)

European Cup Winners Cup 4 matches (1961/62)

Europa League 14 matches (2020/21 and 2021/22)

Europa Conference 6 matches (2021/22)

For purposes of comparison Forest have played 44 matches in all competitions in Europe, so we're 6 games behind them.

yeah but we've never won the champions league so. lol

We have played in 6 different European campaigns (counting this year's Europa League/Conference as one campaign) and Atlético Madrid has knocked us out of 50 percent of them (and knocked us out of three different competitions. And in three different decades)! I doubt they even noticed...

To be fair to them I didnt realise they played that many games in Europe, from memory I only thought it was a couple of European Cups followed by the one they lost in the first round the next year and the solidarity UEFA Cup campaign in the 90s.

PSV play Ajax in the Dutch Cup final on Sunday 17th.

Might impact their team selection v us in the second leg?

I wonder if winning the Dutch Cup gets you EL qualification?   Seems both Teams are chasing a domestic double.

KNVB Cup

The Toto KNVB Beker competition is there for the entire country. Known internationally as the Dutch Cup, the knockout tournament brings together the big names in professional football and the smaller amateur sides. The winners of the Toto KNVB Beker final are guaranteed at least six Europa League matches the following season.

Yup

If only. These Europeans teams really know how to create an atmosphere. Sometimes i watch Bundesliga games and the atmosphere is far better then the PL.

One of the common features why their atmosphere is better, is the megaphone wielding Ultras at the front directing the singing. In addition add in a couple of drummers banging for all their might, and bingo an atmosphere you get nowhere in the Premier League. Currently only Leeds and Palace at home come anywhere close.

The 2 best atmospheres in the UK in my view, Celtic and Rangers, have exactly this formula.

Have always thought palaces is pretty poor, it just looks good on TV. They also have a grown man with a mask on which doesn't look good on TV or in real life.

Announced that next season Van Nistelrooy will be PSV manager. Schmidt hasn’t agreed a new contract.

Every little helps I suppose

Schmidt announced he was off months ago and its made very little difference to their form, they are a very good team this season.

The best news we have is that they play Ajax in the Dutch Cup final on the 17th.

Both clubs are going for a double so they have local pride to fight for but as well as this, the winner of the Dutch Cup guarantees Europa League football. They're only one game away (although I'm sure they're aiming for the CL)

They will definitely make changes for the second leg and prioritise the Dutch Cup Final.

They've been a good team for years now but they're extremely naive with their tactics in European cups. Almost all their games in Europe result in a goal fest. Zahavi also tends to get very angry when things aren't going his way. If we manage to dominate the midfield (probably Tielemans and Mendy in some kind of low block) we have a good chance going through to the next round.

Oh, we also need to avoid giving free kicks outside the box.

I don't think Mendy is included in our European squad is he ?

That's the style of Roger Schmidt to a tee. If you can get through then they are so badly exposed at the back thst you can have a field day. I do think we might be a bit to canny for them like we were with Rennes if we can navigate the first half of the 1st leg.

Forgot about that. 🤔 If our CBs are fully fit we can have Amartey as a DM in front of them maybe? A 4-1-3-2 for the 1st leg?
