One of the reasons for the low initial fee - if true - might be to keep the payment to Norwich down. And it might also see us paying less for Winks than we might otherwise have done…

Arsenal just upped their bid for Declan Rice to 105m......is he 65m more better  than Maddison

If Arsenal lose out to Manchester City it will be bitter pillau to swallow.

It's a ridiculous fee that Arsenal are willing to pay for someone out of contract next season but in addition to that, two major differences are Rice is not pushing the club for his departure and they're a PL club so have more leverage. In reality, Maddison's probably worth closer to £50m and Rice around £75m.

Winks thrown in for no more than 5m hopefully, even if they are saying it’s not linked

Can probably guarantee that will be a deal where a fee just doesn't really get reported anywhere, will just be undisclosed

Think he doesn't want to go to Newcastle because deep down he isn't at their level and he knows it....they play play fast direct football and are going after players who are better then him.

He would have been found out quickly....... Sadly Spurs is his level now and he now's it!

Wild take here. Anthony Gordon is ****ing shite.

Have a think about this old Crispin.

Completely different players, completely different contractual situations, and completely different club situations.

Stock is high because West Ham just won their first trophy since Methuselah was in short pants. He's a good player but not worth anywhere close to that much. Arsenal are getting diddled here in the same way Man United were over Maguire.

Apparently £40m for Maddison and £45m for Winks. But it's ok - they've agreed to let us pay the £5m in installments.

Newcastle probably regret buying AG now.... probably why he's always sits on the bench

He's easily been our best player this season. I don't understand the bitterness.

We had to sell him because of our dour finances. Was never aware of him sulking

for a move. Still too cheap.

4m to Norwich then. 36m for us, minus Macquarie fees (as you can guarantee well cash this in) so maybe 33m net..

66m to go...

Nope, Norwich get 15% of the profit.

Madders was signed for £24m so Norwich will be entitled to 15% of £16m.

That works out to be £2.4m for Norwich as well as 15% of any future add ons.

If we’ve got any sense, it’ll be £30,000,00 + Winks.

Profit on Maddison would only be £6,000,000 then.

So 15% owed to Norwich at that point is £900,000.

As has been said, it benefits us to have this done early. If it was £40mill and done by July 1st or haggle until deadline day and get £45mill or even £50mill. Yes it’d be more cash but we wouldn’t have time to reinvest, build a squad and the start of the season would be unsettled.

You’re not allowed to do that anymore.

But more importantly, we’d have a player training with us that doesn’t want to be here knowing a move is just around the corner. It’s best for everyone that this has be done quick.
