Popular Post Voll Blau Posted 5 May 2022 Popular Post Posted 5 May 2022 If you're voting today, make sure you get out and do it - even if it's just to register your disgust. Nothing will get better if you stay at home. 11

Popular Post urban.spaceman Posted 5 May 2022 Popular Post Posted 5 May 2022 Been out to vote, made sure to put a big cross against the Conservatives to make sure they definitely don't get in. 6

Popular Post Nalis Posted 5 May 2022 Popular Post Posted 5 May 2022 Went for Labour but was tempted by Greens, didnt want to risk contributing to a Tory gain even though its a pretty safe Red seat. On that note, every election make me hate FPTP a little more than the last, what a crap archaic system built for a two party system. 5

Parafox Posted 5 May 2022 Posted 5 May 2022 Just heard on the news about the bank of England's forecast on inflation and that peoples savings will lose value in real terms. Time to start stuffing the mattress.

BlueSi13 Posted 5 May 2022 Posted 5 May 2022 So then the local elections. Read multiple interpretations of what a terrible night for the Conservatives looks like. In terms of vote share I've heard anything under 20% could get the 1922 Committee talking...or losing 300+ seats. But if those losses are mostly localised around London, Wales and Scotland that might suggest the Blue (formerly Red) Wall remains in tact.

I have been following the analysis on Britain Elects, who are pointing out that the seats which are up for grabs in England, but outside London, aren't ones which historically Labour would challenge for, hence why the analysts aren't expecting them to make gains across England, but big gains overall. (Hopefully I have interpreted and explained that correctly!) It's all harder to follow now they have staggered the voting for the council elections, but I am sure that it's something which Boris and his friends will take advantage of when trying to put a bit of spin on the results. 1

Generally the party in power usually takes a beating but it's quite hard to draw solid conclusions from Local Elections as you say due to the staggered nature of them and the appalling turnout. Reading that turnout is looking way down vs expectation. Conservatives staying home? Losing 300+ seats would not be something the government could ignore.

It was fairly busy when I went to vote earlier. I had a huge mental blank on my address for some reason, to the point I am surprised they let me vote,

It does however (along with other results), prove pollsters have been correct lately in voting intentions among the public, and therefore if you were to extrapolate that over a general election - you'd probably be looking at a Labour minority win. Of course, things, and indeed leaders may change by the time of the next general election.
