i can only imagine the ways this man's name's spelling will be butchered if we do land him

what are you talking about?

”Ben” is easy

If we hadn't played Rennes, I wouldn't have heard of this player.

Looks like a player we can actually get as no one's interested in him. Brendan rebuild has finally getting into 1st gear.

8million does seem abit much we could try to offer them 5m.

It's another player in their late 20s who will be on inflated wages, impossible to shift and no resale value. We're playing a dangerous game by continually dipping into this market.

If Top wants us to be self sustainable, we can't keep signing players that we can't move on for a decent fee. We'll be screwed in a couple of seasons.

I really do hope there's nothing in these links.

Fair point I think.   It's definitely a risk at his age, particularly as this seems to be his first season out wide.  That said, £8m and wages is not huge money if he was excellent for us for three seasons.

An excellent stat. We need creativity coming from different areas of the pitch and we have the strikers to convert chances. £8m isn't a huge gamble and I can't see him being among our highest earners seeing as he's currently on about £30k per week.

Resale value is a concern but to offset that we get a player in his prime who's had a couple of really good seasons. For the initial outlay, I think he's worth a punt and someone who we could potentially sell or loan back to France in a year if it doesn't work out with most if not all of his wages covered.

If he's not excellent, which is more likely, we have yet another player adding to our unhealthy wage bill who we'll be begging French teams to take on loan for half his salary.

We got into this position by signing potential and developing it. Why we're moving the proven method of long term failure in signing older players on big wages makes no sense to me. If we're not brave and continue to sign young talent to develop and sell we'll quickly go in the wrong direction and struggle to come back from it.

I'd expect a lot of Rennes players to have impressive stats, due to the way they play football. Attacking teams will have players who have impressive attacking statistics. A lot of teams are capable of playing this way, but most managers put a premium on safety first football as they'd rather survive than try and achieve.

People were touting Ivan Toney as a world beater and worth £30-40 million last season. I've not heard much talk about him at all this season.

Not disagreeing, overall you'd always want to be signing players with resale value and that can develop.  Guess I'm just saying it's never quite that simple.  I am hopeful (probably over optimistically) that Soumare comes good.  If he doesn't then we've got an expensive player on big wages we won't be able to do much with, regardless of age.

There is jeopardy in any signing, I'm not adverse to this guy coming in purely based on his age at that price.

He won't be coming anyway so it's all rather moot 😂

resale value isn’t a concern if he only costs 8m. that’s just money well spent

Not impressed. He basically looks like a cross between Grazzel and Albrighton.

We need players that are going to walk into the first team not another squad filler.

It's not his first season out wide - he regularly used to play on the left for Rennes. It probably is his first season playing mainly on the right, though.

Cool didn't know that ta

Benjamin Button, no thanks. Next

I shouldn't worry about that.

In ten years time we can just put him in the academy

Name sounds like some sort of French beef casserole. Get him in

I foresee him putting in some meaty challenges, showing plenty of sauce, slicing up opposing fullbacks and leaving them in a stew.

p.s. "Get him in"? Can tell you went to Eton. Gerrimmin! ;)

...this £8m price seems strange, as Transfer Market has him at £16.20m and their values are usually under the true market value!!!

...if £8m is the price, then I can see us going for this to cover the RW due to his versatility. In the last 3 years, he has played in just about all the outfield positions!!!

Well his stats are excellent and was player of the month in ligue 1 in may. Seems to have entered the best form of his life. Can he transfer this to the prem? 8M or less seems a reasonable gamble. West ham did it last season with their Czech players.

There will be add ons.   1000 bin liners if we make the ECL.  48 cans of furniture spray if we make the EL and a Dyson up-right if we make top 4.

FFS, we're gonna have Benjamin Beret-man running around in the middle of the park, like a headless French cockerel, wearing our shirt with a sh*te collar, next season, where Tielemans used to play aren't we!!!!!
