Realise that  it is not on-vogue to agree with @Col city fan but I would agree that the squad is not top 6 quality, not even close. This first XI is, just about, but the squad is top 12 I would guess. As we cannot fill the financial gap to some in his league we have gone for a longer term approach of youth development, something we should be pleased about imho.

I don’t give a monkeys toss if it’s en-vogue or not. This place is like a playground a lot of the time and I ain’t got time for bullies. I post what I think is right.

Our second string must get better or we’ll not achieve much going forward. Definitely agree with the first team being good enough though.

I think if we’d have had a good defence this season, we’d have ended up about 6th or 7th

The more chance we give our academy players , the more attractive our academy becomes. If talented young local players see that they would be denied a chance by the purchase of other club's junior prospects , the less likely they are to join us. We have now excellent facilities but its opportunity that young players really want. We are at the moment overstuffed with recruitments of moderate quality and that is a real barrier to these young players.

But the question is.... will rodgers improve the squad... and will he get them playing to their potential?

Imo I have seen enough to feel he should not be the one rebuilding our squad.  He could have 30 top six players and his posession football would see 0 0 as their best result.

No it’s wasn’t, the question was are we overachieving, underachieving or about where we should be.   :D

Then the answer is we are not far off... but I fear for the future with Brendan at the wheel

I would give him a year as I think he has earnt the right to try, including a rebuild as long as it is data driven.

Underachieving. Just look at our first choice XI compared to Wolves and West Ham etc. Not many players I’d take from them

And the squad?

It’s not that bad, we have more options than both clubs especially up front. Look at West Ham, they basically play the same team every game unless there’s a Europa game in between.

I think it would be satisfactory for rotation, just not to replace the first XI on so many occasions as seen this season.

IMO we are under-achieving and I say that even with longterm/short term and recurring injuries we've had. I'm sure someone has already done the stats but if we take just the games where we were leading in extra time and add all those 3 points we would be much further up the table. As it is its tough to sell the hard luck injury story of our season when we couldn't even win the games we literally had in our grasp.

I'm no longer a believer we are over achievers anymore. We've consistently set the bar high for us and teams of our ilk so now our aims and expectations should be to keep competing at those levels every season. Top and the board will be looking strategically at the bigger picture for sure which is more finances and how the team can benefit from it. We must have a stronger bench period. Cannot carry too many players that are not hungry enough or still acclimating to the pace of the premier league. Can't find good foreign talent? Than groom some of our quality academy prospects if they are ready or fast track them thru Luton so they can be ready.

We are underachieving, but I'm not sure by how much?

I think the problem this season for me is that at the start of the season the glass was half full, and I thought the squad would probably need a few tweaks for the 22/23 season.  Now the glass is half empty and I am convinced that a mini rebuild is needed.  I am not sure if this is the Rodgers effect, which could be due to his mismanagement of the squad, or just a natural cycle for a club like ours, or a mixture of the two.  Whatever happens, this season has been one of the most frustrating in recent times, due to the ability of the squad.  Our manager was meant to be the next best thing after Klopp and Pep....well we've certainly found out that he's not near their level.

I know we've had our injuries and that would mitigate some of our performances, but we've been average for over a year now.  I just hope we have a fully fit squad for next season and Rodgers can no longer hide, he will have to show us fans, and the club, that he's worth the money.

There's been high points and low points. Beating Liverpool and PSV are the highlights. Losing to Spurs at Home and Forest away were the worst defeats for me. The European Conference League has been good. Getting to the final really would make this season another memorable one. But we've been so average in the league. The reasons aren't simple but I would say injuries, recruitment, and our complete inability to defend set pieces have been some of the main reasons we are in our current position.

He was shown the door because we lost 5 league games in a row.

More because he was not popular from day one! His dire style of football didn't help either. We are better to watch under Rodgers for the most part admittedly.....but a lot of it this season has veered towards being Puel-ball - in spite of the injuries of course!

Underachieving… because we have become so predictable and unproductive in the way we play and, especially, because, like say Arsenal in the past, we have become a soft touch and everyone knows it - in the air at corners, in 50/50 tackles, in stoppage time, when we have a one-goal lead, away from home etc etc.

This season has been a constant stream of letdowns and disappointments. I just hope and pray that the team can keep it alive by avoiding another in Rome.

....we need to improve the first eleven, that is the only way to properly give us the depth we are looking for!!!

You would..  I wouldn't.   Seems we both recognise the issue.

My reason for being do harsh is that he has been here a while... so we are left with his blind spots.... and managers are stubborn ...so he wont fix them.

We achieved top 6 two seasons running and won the FA Cup, and that’s with loads of injuries. So by what basis are say Arsenal a top 6 squad and we are not?

Few teams could cope with the injuries we’ve had, I don’t like to use that as an excuse for Rodgers as he needs to accept some of the blame there, but we have had them. If Arsenal or Spurs had lost so many players they wouldn’t be close to where they are.

Their squad is larger and has better fringe players, I was never referring to the starting XI. Yes every team would stumble with our injuries this season, but I would contend some less so due the scale and quality of squads.

When fully fit how many of those players get in over ours? Including squad players. They’ve got a pile of bang average players on the fringes.

Quite a few I would say, just feel on current form our squad is poor in comparison and many of their first team fringe players are decent prospects. This is presumably where want to be, hence the new training ground.
