I found Rodgers' comments regarding aggression at set pieces frankly insulting.

A lot of the set piece goals we concede are due to a braindead set-up i.e. mismatches when marking (Ricardo v Abraham), or crap positioning (whether that's zonal or man to man marking). Of course a percentage are down to the opposition wanting it more, but it would be bloody marvellous if, just once, Rodgers would take liability and say we set up wrong and that's down as us as coaching staff. Ooh look, there's a pig flying by!

I would prefer he just said nothing..because even with him protecting his squad ...

He like all managers can't see the bigger picture that effects the fans direct opinions...

If your successfull you can preach all the crap you like...If your squad is performing below certain expectations & not producing basics within the game, you are going to be jumped all over, with every type of noise & nonsense.

If like most of our traditional relegation battles, we at least show endeaver and offer up decent performance, manager/players  will be honourated.

But we are finding midtable security or competing for those converted top positions, bring in other expectations, one shouldn't drift from..

And rightly...this group of players & manager are taking home the best wages where any LCFC   manager & playing staff  have ever earnt..

We have a soft underbelly, seems like every game we playing we are to slow with the ball and then get out muscled by opposition players be it in The EPL, Europa Cup or the latter games on the Conference league cup.

In our Title winning season we had strong players like Huth and clever ones like Fuchs, others like Ulloa scoring goals when we needed them and we were rolling other players/teams over and now we look like boys playing against men.

What's the solution?

I’d just like aggression in the tactical sense, and I mean pressing as a team again, high up. I know it’s a bit ‘old school/Roy Keane’ thing to say but press high up and be aggressive in the closing down, get stuck in. Not drop off and semi-press the player on the ball but let him make an easy pass to someone with loads of time while Barnes or Lookman etc jog towards him… it doesn’t get anyone off their seat.

Don’t spend 90 minutes passing it around the back for possession stats… again it doesn’t get you off your seat.

I know we’ve criticised ourselves for the lack of atmosphere recently but the players / manager have to do their bit. With our style at times it feels like we are at the cricket more than a game of football.

If Brendan goes back to that (as we were doing it 18 months ago) and now we have no European football to contend with, I’ll be happy. But if it’s not in his DNA, then I’d rather we get someone in who will play like that.

That’s the aggression I want to see…

Seem to be having a pop at Brendan all the time these days but a team plays in the image/character of its manager. Someone needs to look in the mirror.

this is nothing new under rodgers imo, we've always been quite an honest, nicey nicey team.

in one sense it's quite admirable, we don't tend to hound refs, complain, roll about, etc.

on the other hand, it's a bit lightweight - we're all smiles and laughs and not got much grit to us.

need to find a bit more middle ground.

Can’t believe how much we were bullied all over the pitch Thursday night. It was like watching 90 minutes of that clip of Zaha against the Crystal Palace womens team

Brendan buying Jose " a nice bottle of wine" before the first leg was like taking in an apple for the teacher. Too nicy nicey.

Jose repaid him by instructing his players to foul, dive and fake injury constantly.

Here's the thing , if you play fair in the Italian Premier League , you get your arse kicked - Every Match. Roma are not great by any means but they know how to play on the edge alright.

As much as I hate it we also need to learn and use some of the dark arts if the refs are going to allow it.

Last night our players particularly Lookman were constantly pushed over from behind we should have seen that and used it against them.

Again as much as I dislike it but if the opposition are gaining an advantage by doing it like Roma were we need to appeal for every tackle/foul, corner and goalkick to go our way.

Rennes away was the best I’ve seen us at being bastards, and that sort of behaviour is what got us through in the end.

Agreed. Physicality and aggression needed. We’ve been saying it since the first top four bottle.

We need to be adaptable based on in game play. You could see after 5 mins from the Roma game the challenge that faced us. The referee was not going to give us any favourable treatment. The captain/experienced players needs to be stronger and more vocal to the referee. In addition Brendan should make the necessary changes in game.

The opposition should be adapting to us.

Against the very best like Man City & Liverpool yes, we should be the one to adapt.

But for 95% of the season, we should have a set style of play, system and game plan where everyone on the pitch knows what their job is, week in week out. You need to build a squad around this philosophy, so when we get injuries the sub can simply come in and perform the same role the injured player was doing. If Fornals, Bowen, Dawson and Cresswell were all injured for West Ham, Moyes can just bring in Lanzini, Benrahma, Diop and Masuaku without having to change his system too much. See what I mean?

Brendan’s faffing around with tactics and ‘adapting’ to the opposition has cost us so many points its ridiculous. How many times have we seen the starting line up and thought why has he done that.

Not sure I agree. I think we do lack aggression in both boxes and Liverpool v Tottenham yesterday really brought that home. The way Konate and VVD attacked the corners was like nothing I’ve seen from any of our players this season.

Re the set up (and I made this point in ‘Ricky marking Abraham’ thread). There was always going to be a mismatch as they had 3CBs to our 2 plus a striker who was 6’4”, whilst we only had 3 outfield players over 6ft.

Probably the most damming statistic of the season so far. We need to be more aggressive and streetwise on corners, but also in general play and as a team again. I think to a certain extent Rodgers has a point that aggression can’t be coached, but as a coach you can build a mentality and desire in a side. I think it’s evident complacency has crept in amongst the squad, as it did after the title win. The Man City’s and Liverpools of this world may spend the big bucks, but you can’t question the desire and hunger to go again. That desire and hunger is what I want to see more of next year. By no means do the players not try, it just feels there’s no edge to our game anymore

It’s about matching that desired aggression and physicality with sufficient ability though. Hamza has been available and pretty much unused as he’s a class or two beneath the others on the ball. Would any of the Leeds or Burnley players fit the bill, they certainly have the physicality? I think two more rugged CB’s will arrive in the summer, Tarkovski and one other.
