6 new signings

Recommended Posts

So Percy has said we want 6 new signings, with the key positions being CB, creative midfielder and RW.

This has me very worried about the summer ahead, as it’s quite rare for a club to get transfers spot on 6 times in one window. We could be in for some duds.

Brendan said last summer KDH was like a new signing so maybe ‘new signings’ will include some of our loanees like Iversen? Who knows.

Anyway, list below which 6 players you’d like to bring in.

In that order. Think the last one could be a versatile forward if Kelechi leaves. Although not completely convinced he will leave.

FWD - CDK

Those would be some good signings mate and shouldn’t be too expensive.

Would be happy with that, Madueke if Johnson stays at a promoted Forest.

Lunin maybe the goalkeeper, but that position seems a bit weird. Kasper benching was odd, rumours he is leaving, etc… don’t think ward is good enough to be first choice personally. Iversen and Lunin fighting for the jersey would be decent.

....Brennan Johnson as the RW just does not give us what need!!!

Teams that we are up against with a "low block", requires people who can beat a man in confined spaces and progress into the box. Johnson is good playing in a fast paced team, where we are not building the play from the back. He will either keep coming short looking for the ball or become agitated waiting to be released and put into a space where he can run at the defence. He is pretty much a Wide Forward as opposed to a RW.

Johnson won't be cheap. Even if Forest don't get promoted. They can still command a high fee based on their his value to them. Unless he says he wants to leave then it may bring the price down but I wouldn't expect Forest to request below anything like £25m-30m...

Is there even any indication we have been linked with him at all?

We don't need a new GK. Schmeichel/Iversen/Ward are more than adequate options.

RW and better talent at CB is a must. Get those two positions sorted and then focus on other targets later.

Entering last year of contract though... not sure if bring under 24 makes much difference.

Ah didn't realise that. Think his stock has risen very high this season though. He'll be very much sought after this summer.

Yeh tried to keep it semi realistic.

Yeh think Madueke is potentially more likely. My only concern with him was whether he’d have the defensive work rate, but am sure Rodgers will think he can get something from him.

Agreed keeper situation seems up in the air at the minute. I actually have a feeling Iversen may be sold this summer, but would prefer we kept him in and around the squad as a transition season from Kasper (if he stays).

Is a wide forward/ RW not what we need? He looks like he can beat a man, has a good work rate and an eye for goal. My only qualm with Johnson is he’s right footed.

We signed 7 in 2018 and only Dierdre and Benkovic didn’t really work out IMO.

Ricardo, Maddison and Evans are integral members to the squad and Soyuncu and Ward have had massive moments too. (Probably harsh on Cags but his dips have been exposed by Fofana’s form).

Tielemans arrived on loan in the January.

That window pushed us on quite a lot (particularly after Rodgers came in), if we could have another such window then we really could move up another level IMO.

Good point urban, it’s certainly better to be optimistic about the window ahead!! Hopefully Rudkin and co will pull off another masterclass :)

I suppose with the 6 that it depends on how many are meant for the first team. And I would imagine that there won't be that many that are intended for it.

If we are going to play 433, then we need to replace Youri. But assuming Wilf recovers from his injury then for the first team Maddison will continue in his hybrid RW / ACM position, and it's just the Youri replacement that comes straight in.

If we go back to 4231 then we'd need a right winger for the first team, with our double pivot being KDH and Ndidi, and Maddison dropping back to a ten.

So assuming that's the likely scenario, then of the 6 signings, none of them necessarily need to slot right away into the starting 11.

So then looking at potential signings they are more for depth / competition.

- Charles DeKeteleare. Could play at RW or ACM, just like Maddison. I think this will be our marquee signing and he will start off playing alongside Maddison in a 4231, but at times we will rotate between the two with a view for him to take over when Maddison inevitably joins a title contesting side.

- Mendy replacement. I think we play better in a 433 with Mendy in the team than with Ndidi! Wilf will take over, Mendy most likely will leave, so on top of the Youri replacement, we'd need a Mendy replacement too.

- RW candidate. Even though we have Albrighton, I think for depth and tactical depth an out and out winger / wide forward will be brought in, though I don't expect that playere to play every week.

- CB. Evans rotation / replacement. I reckon it will be Tarkowski.

The others I'm not sure of. A left back maybe? And Ademola Lookman made into a permanent?

Goalkeeper - Daniel Iversen

Centre Back - Waldemar Anton (Stuttgart)

Defensive Mid - Khephren Thuram (Nice)

Creative Mid - Orkun Kokcu (Feyenoord)

Right Winger - Charles De Ketalaere (Club Brugge)

Left Winger - Ademola Lookman

Should Kasper leave I think Iversen deserves a go

I think we should try and get Lookman on loan again but mandatory purchase in 2023

He's very raw but the cheaper option to De Ketelaere is Mohamed Ali-Cho. His contract is up next summer. He's strong, rapid and can play across the front 3 and as a support striker.

I could see him replacing Iheanacho bit whether he ticks off the box for out wide if we then get another in like Lookman I really don't know. I'm torn on wanting a specialist right winger given how badly we've failed to get a reliable player in that position for over 4 years.

If we are signing a versatile forward who will play wide right or through the middle then I don't think De Ketelaere is that player at all.

To be honest, Ric I think CDK will be signed (potentially) as a RW. Rodgers likes inverted wingers, he is left footed and a forward thinking player. He’s young and can be moulded into the player Brendan wants. I see a lot of Gareth Bale in him, long leggy gate, fairly quick with an eye for goal. Plus he can play as a false 9 or just off the striker.

Ali-Cho would be that development signing. If finances allow I can see both coming in. Lookman will be a fall back if the main targets aren’t feasible in my opinion.

I don't see both coming in. I think we need to be careful what we are trying to do. De Ketelaere as a replacement for Iheanacho and Perez to play as a forward would be good business. To sign him to play as a winger is a huge gamble as he doesn't play there and he doesn't have the skill set to be a winger. Maybe we are looking to have a system that doesn't really require traditional types of player and there's no denying he drifts in to wide positions to link players in but he doesn't start out there and cut in.

Ali-Cho is as much a centre forward as he is a winger, I can see the logic there for him. To be honest, the bits I've seen of Ebiowi at Derby, he'd be the raw left footed right winger I'd bring in and a versatile forward.

That's why I've been unrelentingly Rodgers In. I strongly believe we have a very good opportunity if we get this window right.
