We have an issue with our wages to turnover ratio, we have to be careful. Money is going to be stretched to the max once again as we try and get the players we feel we need.

but if we got a transfer fee for cags wouldn’t that increase our turnover?

4 year deal and apparently £100k+ a week

Kinda glad we haven’t touched that

Crazy money, would be 33 at the end of his contract.

20m before you even add a signing on fee.

We have had our fingers burnt with Vesty and Berty, so hopefully not going down this road again

To think there were some on here that were all for signing him over Fofana!!!

What would you like to be hit by?

Well this is a very difficult question to answer.  In other words, what is the opposite of dodging a bullet?  I think I'm gonna have to sleep on it.

But we've got to lower it even further due to the new UEFA rules if we want to qualify for Europe any time soon, its brutal.

I agree with you.

Makes me wonder if we’ll see a Perez and Soumare show the door, as they’re on bigger wages.

Kasper is huge potentially as he’ll be on something like £6.5m a year. If he wants out, I’m not sure we’d stand in his way.

You’re right about Soyuncu. I was told he was on £45k a week, which was the initial contract when he joined. He’s never signed another one. I’ve no idea if we have a +1 year option we could trigger in that though.

Tarks is a Maquire Mk II by the way; he doesn’t play in the way we want, so this isn’t a bad thing,

I sure we will be looking to trim some fat of the wage bill, lots of natural wastage coming up with the like of Mendy, Perez, Choudhury come to the end of their contacts. By the time we hit the strictest period of the new FFP rules 25/26 I'd imagine some of our top earns like Kasper will be gone.

This we will be looking at a smaller first squad, supplemented with academy players, we just need to be leaner and smarter, more performance based elements in contracts.

I can see more clubs of our size buying players that can cover multiple positions

Absolutely this.

I haven’t been shy in sharing my love of Castagne and feel he embodies the versatility aspect down to a tee.

I wonder if Vardy’s new contract offer would reflect the need to reduce the wage bill?

As for Kasper, RL stated he’s the 4/5th highest paid keeper in the league so when he does leave us, that will be an area of savings.

Would've said yes a few seasons ago, but think we've got enough cover now (but still think Soyuncu will probably go).

W've got enough cover, even though you think Soyuncu will probably leave, and the club have said we want a CB?

Some things about this could have made sense - old school, no nonsense CB, “only” 29 so could have another four or five years. Might have been the solid presence alongside our younger, flashier/riskier CBs like Fofana or Cags. But then again, that’s what Vestergaard was essentially supposed to be. And we have Evans filling the older head role (while he remains fit). We do need more bite and grit, but probably from an older head in midfield or maybe a Fuchs-like steadying left back (which was what Bertrand was supposed to be!).

The Bertrand conundrum is a strange one. He looked good in his first few appearances.

I wonder if he’s struggled to get himself that sharpness back after Covid.

Southampton fans said his legs had gone at least 2 years ago.

I think he looked good in pre-season for exactly that reason.

I get the replacing Fuchs, cover for Thomas whilst JJ/Ricky were still coming back from injury but let’s be honest a hideous bit of business.

Also, the “Bertrand won things with Chelsea” doesn’t stick with me, he was hardly pivotal in any of that - can’t imagine him getting many minutes when Cole was their first choice LB.

In fairness, bizarrely he did start in the champions League final, which they won in 11/12.
