I'm not saying getting a lump is the answer either, but someone like Bremer is definitely more the mold we ought to be looking at. For reference: Saliba on the left, Bremer on the right. I've left out the passing stats, but Saliba is like 99th percentile in all of them - he's clearly a very good player, but I don't know that that's our problem. Saliba wins a greater percentage of his aerial duels though, Bremer just seems to face more crosses. For me that would imply that Bremer is actually worse in the air, or more rash at getting into duels that he's not likely to win.

I mean it's a little deceptive the way duel wins are recorded - if you get the ball and it falls to an opposing striker, you still count as having won the duel. At the moment a huge problem is just having completely uncontested attackers in our box - I'd rather have a guy who goes at them 3x as often to a slightly lower success rate personally

I havent watched either of them much but I don't think it's conclusive from the stats that bremer is significantly better in the air. 1

That's fair, especially the context of the amount of defensive actions required of each player. That said, I think I terms of general defensive prowess I'd still rather have Bremer or a player in his mold to Saliba or a player in his.

For me it's the fact that Ligue 1 and St Etienne fans watched Saliba and Fofana in the same team and came to the conclusion that Saliba was better. I'm a massive fan of Fofana so if there's another defender that was decided to be of a similar calibre to him from a direct comparison, then i'm more inclined to go with that player. Bremer is more of a risk because it's hard to gauge how different players in different teams and different league stack up against each other. 1
Deeg67 Posted 1 June 2022 Posted 1 June 2022 I must have missed the memo explaining why Arsenal is going to sell a player it makes absolutely no sense for them to sell. 1
JimJams Posted 1 June 2022 Posted 1 June 2022 Because up until now he's not been fancied by Arteta, and they seemingly don't get on. Sort of like Rodgers and Praet. 3

CrispinLA in Texas Posted 1 June 2022 Posted 1 June 2022 Arsenal have already messed around with him, he doesn't want to go back there....if he wants to come and play in the EPL bring him here. Hard to find any world class defenders. Newcastle and Marseille also want him 2

sacreblueits442 Posted 5 June 2022 Posted 5 June 2022 ...he is obviously saying the right things about fighting his way into the team, but Arsenal had such a poor backline for so long, how is it that he is struggling to find a way into their team!!!
gurru991 Posted 10 June 2022 Posted 10 June 2022 Credit to Saliba, he is saying all the right things while quietly going about his business. At some point he will end up in the Premier & I'm sure will do very well.
Heskey2011 Posted 10 June 2022 Posted 10 June 2022 Mrs is a gooner and got very defensive bout this. Saliba considers himself an arsenal player even though he hasn't played for them yet, he wants to show arsenal what he can do. Apparently according to the socials.
LFox99 Posted 10 June 2022 Posted 10 June 2022 Yeah he gave that interview recently, basically said he'll want to prove himself. Probably the smartest thing to do, he's got 2 years left on his deal and with a decent season in the prem and only 1 year left this time next year he'll get plenty of offers.
Grebfromgrebland Posted 10 June 2022 Posted 10 June 2022 Goes to show the gulf in finances of the top 6 and us. 2
Jaspa Posted 10 June 2022 Posted 10 June 2022 Started for France tonight, they're currently 1-down in Austria.

He is saying all that you would expect him to say, will fight for his position and give his all to prove he deserves to play at this level. I hope we have the inclination and the nous to get involved. 1

JamesWelshFox Posted 11 June 2022 Posted 11 June 2022 Arsenal want Tielemans. So how about Saliba and a few quid in exchange.
Tommy Fresh Posted 11 June 2022 Posted 11 June 2022 Not going to kick up a fuss and demand to leave is he, as he's probably got a fair bit of potential cash in a loyalty bonus.
JimJams Posted 11 June 2022 Posted 11 June 2022 Arsenal also apparently interested in Raphinha now, be intrigued to see where the funds are all coming from.
