Are you suggesting that there are no more Mahrez’s, Kante’s, Wilf”s etc out there? No more Vardy’s? I think there are. We’re just need to find them - which is easier said than done.

Its very unlikely to ever happen again. We are a top team these days and do not operate under the radar. If we see a potential top player so do all our rivals and then it comes down to money.

I respectfully disagree. No reason NOT to at least try to operate under the radar. Those sorts of players are still out there, you just have to look hard and take the chance. Our efforts at securing decent players in the £10-£20 million pound bracket don’t seem all that successful. JJ is another example. We took the risk and but for his injury that lad would have been a nailed on England starter. He might get back to that. He might not. For the money we paid he is exceptional. 1 1

Take Raphina for instance, Leeds picked him up for a pittance (£16.74m), we choose to look for players in the £25m+ category. Palace has picked up Ebiowei and Olise for little outlay, they also picked up Eze for little as well. We need to back our judgment in who we go for, but unfortunately at the moment our present recruitment team struggles to see potential. 3

Red Bull Salzburg do this successfully year after year after year. 2

Looking at our most likely starting eleven , nine precede Rodgers , one was a record fee for a teenage defender and only Justin is an example of finding a real undervalued gem. Our much vaunted business plan is probably a thing of the past. We should shift our focus to academy graduates . Our scouting network in junior football needs to become of the highest class. Then we need the best coaches , we already have the infrastructure. 1

Those players went to those clubs as they could be offered more game time than we could. Things just didn't pan out the way we wanted over the last 12 months.
Guest Dirkster the Fox Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 I bet he gets sold to Forest at some point during the last days of the window. Just got a hunch....
VLC86 Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 Is giving him 50k a week the worst business we have done lately?

In some ways it's a lot more difficult when you are where we are now i.e trying to push for Europe to find one of those. Vardy struggled big time in the championship in his first season. Would we have even been able to see it through with him, would he have with us? Mahrez wasn't anything special initially then suddenly wow. We tried and failed massively with Diabate and Ghezzal to replace him. As you say, easier said than done.

I don't disagree but all footballers are paid too much , this is how T V. money has corrupted the game.

Footballers are paid too much obvious but it’s within our power not to offer someone who barely plays 50k a week. Probably a consequence of our injuries, we probably had nobody fit when he signed it and he’s had our pants down.

An Sionnach Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 Hamza looked to be a sure fire thing when he got his contract but then came the Liverpool Klopp incident and Rodgers got nervous about red cards so on the bench he went. With little game time he hasn't kicked on. He is unlikely to be offered a new contract so he will be on his way to the Championship probably, at the end of the coming season.

He's only ever looked very one dimensional and limited

It is far less expensive to improve in this area than to make an impact on the starting 11. 2

So if we boot and replace them we are telling Rodgers he's shite. So then we have to clear out all of them.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 28 July 2022 Posted 28 July 2022 He's been living on two shithouse wins about five years ago and the fact he has a funny haircut. Giving him that contract was stupid af. 1
