No I fackin hate it.

People seem so surprised when they find out my real name, and even more surprised that I don’t have people call me the more popular shortened alternative of my original name.

Alright Rob.

No word of a lie, my Mum has told me on numerous occasions that it was between Kevin or Kilroy (and yes, it was after that god awful talk show).... So with that considered, I can't complain too much with Kevin.

Another John named after my Dad also a John, who I have no memories of since the age of 7 when he kicked my mum out. I think they must have run out of ideas by the time i was born being the 4th son

Don't like it for that plus there was always other Johns in school, there were 3 in my junior school class I was known as the invisibly named Middle John compared with Big John and Little John of Robin Hood fame.

I also have a single syllable surname so I hate the whole combination. Boring. common, unimaginative.

My Mum used to call me Jackie which I hated and refused to respond to as it was a girls name at school, I kind of regretted it later when Leicester signed one of my favourite and very successful players Jackie Sinclair.

Ah well too much information there.

My mother announced a while ago that I was very nearly a Hamish.

Likely would have a been a bit hellish at school, but quite cool in later life.

Mine is Matthew and I keep reminding my wife it means “ gift of God” so she should be grateful to have me.

but when I was a kid I wanted to be a Roman soldier called Markus.

We know a couple that have named their son Atticus. Can't really be shortened to anything else. Maybe Attic. I dread to think of his school years.

Can I suggest Nick? :)

That's what I'm called by almost everyone and I still don't like it.

Better Robin than Owen.

Not that either are mine. I'm ok with mine thought it is commonly shortened and I'm not a fan of the shortened version. Still s'only a name, my farts smell as bad by either.

I'm a Paul and never really had a problem with it. At primary school, there were 5 of us Pauls around my age, so that could get a bit irritating. Otherwise, I'm content without getting excited about it.

I reckon 99% of Pauls were born between 1950 and 1970. Don't think I've ever met a Paul more than 10 years younger than me....though Paul Konchesky qualifies.

If I'd been a girl, I was due to be named Katya - at a time when that would have been merely pretentious and not cool and exotic.

I heard the whispered plans through the wall of my mother's womb and grew a penis there and then.

Welcome to 1974.

Your 1974 name is much better than mine, and so much less age defining.

I've always hated my name.

I'm a Paul from the 1980s. Hate it!

Why, out of curiosity?

One syllable, matched with a surname of one syllable. Just dull. The alternative was apparently Greg though so small mercies.

Now there's a name I would have embraced instead of mine

My mom wanted Kevin ... Dad wanted a family name too hideous to mention.

So they compromised on something neutral.  I'm fine with it.  Even though Brits cannot figure out how to spell it.

My favorite baby naming story:  Friends expecting their second made the mistake of asking their 3 year old what he thought would be a good name for his new baby sister.

He came up with "Chompo Kleenex"  lol

Only my mum calls me by the name on my birth certificate, its an ok name (bit too American for me, as its 2 names hyphenated to make one) But never met anyone else with the same name though, which is quite nice.

Much prefer Sue or Suzie though.

I have a friend, pretty well off family. Quite well to do, his second name is Beveridge and he couldn't understand why I couldn't stop laughing when I found out his sisters name in Phillipa.
