Rodgers opens up on Leicester City transfer struggles but 'won't go to war' with club

He didn't, you are right. He said that he won't be able to shake the squad up as much as he would have liked which was previously stated to be 5 or 6 players. Meaning we could probably be looking at 3/4 realistically but that all depends on players leaving which he said "Clubs have to want them" which suggests to me that currently... they don't.

I doubt we won't sign anyone but personally, after hearing what he said yesterday... I won't expect more than 3 new faces.

Yep. Time to adjust expectations raised by comments a few months ago.

I'd now be happy if we get a good RM and a decent backup CB - and move 3-4 players on. I don't want to see Maddison shifted to the right again or Sharkey playing too regularly or Perez playing there.

Shame about Perez as he's not bad playing more centrally, but certainly shouldn't displace Maddison - and playing 2 strikers more than occasionally would risk reducing our threat from Madders & the wide players.

I presume any signings may now depend partly on precisely who we manage to move on: e.g. if Perez goes, a RM becomes more likely, but if Soyuncu or Westergaard go, a CB becomes more likely? :dunno:

If Youri goes, that opens things up a bit as we'd get a half-decent fee....but would have a new hole to fill (or new formation/tactics to adjust to).....I just hope he either goes soon or is happy to stay, perform well and preferably sign an extension. Youri departing on 31st August would be a potential nightmare.

If the players are playing for him and he makes better tactical decisions …..I think that fit players does not guarantee a successful season as earlier posters have suggested something is not right !

The players are playing for him from what I saw last season.

He's also shown he can make good tactical decisions and bad ones as well. But he gets more right then he does wrong as illustrated by 5th, 5th and 8th place finishes.

Ok, so Brendan has laid it out. We won't be making many signings, if any at all. Fine. Its crap but it is what it is and he now needs to get on with it.

What he needs to do now (and I'm not suggesting that he hasn't already) is focus on finding a system that fits our current squad/a way of playing that the team buy in to and drilling it into them. We're always going to have a player or two playing in a position they aren't completely comfortable with, its just minimising that and getting them as comfortable as possible.

My personal opinion is the diamond. I think it suits who we have at the minute, the most.... It only plays with 2 CBs which is good because we only have 2 good ones. It makes use of our Fullbacks were I think we are strong. It puts Wilf in his strongest position with Mendy a decent back up. Similarly, it puts Maddison in his preferred position at 10 with Perez being most comfortable there when needed. It plays to the strength of Daka and Nacho who are both better in a 2. If Youri stays, we have a strong CM partnership with him and KDH, Praet is a good deputy if we can convince him of the role and between Soumare, Hamza and our promising youngsters... we should be able to find another squad player.

The only first teamer it doesn't suit is Barnes who will maybe have to work at filling in as a striker, maybe as a Vardy sub with Daka and Nacho competing for the other spot.

He's had a good 24 months with the majority of these players. You'd like to think he's got his system pretty nailed down. You make it sound like he's only just joined the club and is having to get used to working with a whole new bunch of players :D

How consistent has our squad or starting line up been in those 2 years?

No... he is seeding a narative for his next job

Brendan has talked about the diamond at length previously and why he doesn't like it - you basically surrender the wide areas, the exact areas we're strong in with our fullbacks and Barnes

No they haven't. Every other club has been active but you won''t be able to tell if they are stronger until you see the signings in action. I don't see how Leeds, who lost Phillips and Raphinha, can be consider 'strengthened' with who they have signed..

I was baiting Davie who said even 1 signing can make a difference.

When he says I wont criticise the club... he means " I would be justified in criticising the club and will do so to explain the poor performance when I leave".

I realise that many of you are loyal to all things lcfc..  but it is time to wake up.

We had to sack Claudio... sadly.

Rodgers has done some great stuff

.. but the direction of last season means we need to part ways sooner rather than later... sadly.

I’ve no loyalty to Rodgers if he left I’d be ambivalent about it as my concerns would be towards who replaces him.

Like our player recruitment we’re in no man’s land not big enough to attract an elite successful manager and too advanced to take a risk on an unknown because unlike a new player a  new manager can kill a dream far easier than he can achieve one.

You'll be baying for his blood 5 games into the season when remembering what it's like to watch a Rodgers game.

He is ripping up everything that made this club good.

Sure it’s been said, but am I the only one who thinks if everyone stays fit we will be fine, and further to that so many players  give huge optimism when they sign only go on to disappoint. Soumare,Ghezzal,Mendy,Praet, Silva,Slimani, Under, spring to mind.

Vardy, Justin, N’didi, Fofana, Maddison Evans and Ricardo fit, we will galvanise and be fine…

Same people who said finishing 8th was a failure with our squad, now saying the same squad will get relegated.
