Rodgers opens up on Leicester City transfer struggles but 'won't go to war' with club

Sad state of affairs. Entirely predictable though. I think we’ll start the season with exactly the same squad. That will inevitably mean conceding shit loads of goals from set pieces. The only hope is Vards and Madders can knock a few in.

It's now at the stage that I'm getting just as excited about dubious rumours of another club possibly considering a bid for one of our fringe players as I would have done a few seasons ago if we'd actually signed a top international. The times we live in, eh?

Just going to throw this in here, Spurs made no transfers in summer 18/19, runner up in the Champions League, 4th in the league and Semi of the League cup.

To counter that though, it's believed a lot of Spurs problems in recent years accumulated from their inability to refresh the squad around that time. Too many players were running their contracts down or regressing after some great years together and its only really now that they are recovering.

Not sure that the case they spent 112m the season before and 117m the season after 230m in total.

Bit like Rodgers Poch was a good coach but poor in the market.

Also replacing hime with a destructive Jose didn't help.

Having a reasonable group of players... a stable team playing to their strengths might be better than shaking things up.  I expect there are lots of examples.  It's called management

What I was more alluding to was they did (more so than us) try and keep together their squad that had been successful and didn't cash in on them u till it was too late. They then had to try and replace players who'd done exceptionally well for them like Eriksen, Vertonghen, Alderweild, Dembele etc without getting much money for them. They seriously declined in their final year/s of their contracts too and I'm worried that's what we are facing. We don't have the wealth to overcome that either.

I do wonder whether they don’t have the confidence in him to back him with finance.

....I can't see the benefit in that as it makes little sense!!!

You are either trying to engender a constructive dismissal situation, or the club is shooting itself in the foot. If you had no belief in his ability to take us forward then you would have terminated his contract at the end of the season, The cost of this would be almost the same as it is now.

We need Rodgers to go of his own accord, and that would either be a club willing to take a gamble or we are successful in the season in order for us not to have to pay up his contract.

I think the biggest mistake we have made is not selling Soyuncu and Tielemans last year, once it was clear they wouldn't sign we should have bit the bullet.

But they would have been slated for selling youri then by the fan base , but the 70m we got in would have been very beneficial.

Just hoping we can somehow sell them this window for 40m-50m.

After the FA cup goal, I thought Tielemans was the bees knees and he would carry on that magic and enjoy a lifetime at Leicester and seeing him in a captain role.

But who was to know he would be s*** last season and he had clocked off after the cup win.

In hindsight your right in we should of cashed in on him 😔

There's not even any development signings to challenge the 1st team / U23's. There's such little financial flexibility it's frightening.

I dread to think how bad things will have looked had we not won 4 of our last 5, that was worth about £13m in additional prize money I think.

35m tops for Tielemans, 20m for Soyuncu.

Ultimately the responsibility for pushing the budget to breaking point and making such a mess of it lies with Rudkin, but as we know the man is untouchable. He allowed Rodgers to bring in Congerton, he allowed the continual new contract rewards of average players.

The whole thing has a similar feel to the immediate time after Taylor departed, albeit at a slightly higher level.

To be fair he has been DOF whilst we won the PL and FA Cup so does have some credit in the bank.

I really doesn't have a Taylor vibe.

It's the tactics not the players... simple example: to put opposition on back foot then pop a ball over the top.in first 5 mins...yet not under be

Brendans possession football.

Yup unfortunately this is correct, although the amount of injuries hasn't helped him.

If he can get us playing like we did for the last few games at the end of last season we will be up there without a doubt, imo we have a pretty strong squad if all are fit and couple of additions would help but won't be worrying if not.

I would drop Youri if he doesn't sign or leave though.

The chances are he will either go for nothing or sign up and stay for another 3 seasons, we are the only club I believe whose management holds him in the highest esteem.

With this transfer going through, Leicester will be the only club in Europes top 5 leagues that hasn’t signed a new player.

We do like to beat to our own drum. :D

Perhaps this is the elephant in the room? We don’t want to commit to lots of signings until Glover is in place?

Looking at our contracts we are about to begin a new era for the club with former legends leaving. Waiting for the man who will oversee that transition to come in is quite sensible.

All that said I can’t quite believe we haven’t at minimum signed Ademola Lookman! We have as it stands a weaker squad than last year. Praet I like but think Lookman was a great option who had a big impact for us many times.

I'd argue it stronger this year as we start the season fingers crossed with everyone fit and healthy.

It's a bit up in the air at the moment as to whether Rodgers is even a good coach.
