Rodgers opens up on Leicester City transfer struggles but 'won't go to war' with club

I don't think we will "magically" be okay.

But I personally think less football and more recovery time for the players will help to reduce the occurence of injuries compared to levels of the past 2 years or so.

I hope you're right.

I don't think anyone can argue against having better quality in depth but that is almost impossible for us to achieve because better players wont want to play second fiddle, aka Praet they might at one of the Super 6 clubs and certainly not with the wages we could afford.

If we'd have had half the injuries we've had this season in 2015/16 we'd never have won the league, we've never in all my time watching us we've never had much quality in depth.

As for all those player you mentioned they helped us to achieve a top 10 finish, not what we wanted but pretty good in the circumstances.

That’s the difference surely between a ‘2nd tier’ side who becomes successful (in terms of winning trophies) and one that doesn’t. Being able to find a better standard of squad player.

Why we are unable to do it this summer is for two reasons I guess. Firstly, we seem to have become worse at recruiting ‘gems’.
And secondly, because we’ve recruited some duffers over the last year or two, there’s no money left even if we were to find these players.

With how a number of other Premiership sides have spent decent money and strengthened this summer, I believe injuries will be the key this season in terms of whether we are fighting to get into Europe or sliding down the table. I have little faith I’m afraid in having to rely for two long on our second string players.
One thing I do think will act in our favour though will be not having to play in Europe this season.

It’ll be interesting and I’m waiting to see how the likes of Soumare, Perez and Thomas do if they have to play for any length of time.

I'm massively Rodgers out BTW but I personally love it when little old Leicester get put back in a box and never to be heard of again.

It's when we thrive, it's when we upset the those who despise the little guy.

Bring on the non transfers, nobody talking about us, media assuming mid table dross.

Let Newcastle, Palace, Village, Arsenal take all the headlines because we have been there, done it and worn the horrible Adidas template kit.

Drank too much on a hot Sunday......completed it mate lol

Absolutely agree, it's certainly when we used to thrive, all we need is a manager up to such a challenge like previous one's, not a half wit who still dreams of a philosophy without the players to match a defunct style of play.

I agree, we're at the best when fighting but you have to have the requisite manager who is prepared to fight with what he's got regardless of what his personal thoughts and fluffy mindedness of how the game should be played. It's about winning, not putting on a pretty performance for the media and reputation of the manager and his next job.

This felt like the most appropriate thread (off the ones I have access to) to say sorry to all those I've upset over the (many) years.

Be good.

I’m just pointing out that the manager can’t have it both ways. I have no idea why you chose to quote my post for such a ridiculous rant.

It seemed a good idea at the time…

There is a lot in this. People forget that when we won the Championship we were nowhere near the favoured team like we were under Sven just because Pearson decided to get rid of a lot of big names and stick with those unfavoured people like Vardy and Drinkwater (who so many of you went into meltdown about starting the first game at Boro).

Likewise any signing thats ever come good or any achievement we have had, it has always been when no one has expected it.

The truth is, they do not trust Rodgers. There is money, but they won’t allow

more fruitless, pointless and pitiful signings under Rodgers tenure. Should have done the right thing and binned him off when everyone thought they would. Kind of hobbled us now, because we DO need a refresh and and shakeup.

I think we are at a point of brinkmanship where the owners don’t want to pay Rodgers off and are hoping he is tempted to jump ship. This transfer strategy plays in to that in my opinion.

Why do people talk like this is Football Manager? Rodgers isn't at home on his DELL asking for a a bigger transfer budget. There is a team above him who have royally ****ed up too.

When you say "the truth" you mean "I'm guessing".

If things had reached the point that the owners didn’t trust Rodgers with transfer money, they would have sacked him. What’s the point in retaining a manager you don’t trust while massively handicapping him and the team in the process? It makes literally zero sense.

It’s about squad size and FFP. If we manage to shift a few higher earners off the wage bill, Rodgers will be allowed to make signings. Then your bizarre theory will be exposed for the nonsense it is.

In essence, you are saying the club are sabotaging their own business and risking losing millions because they don’t trust the manager?

They may see it as saving many millions by not allowing him to spunk millions on rubbish. We are the only team in the Premier League not to have signed anyone yet. That is quite something IF we are a forward looking, motivated and aspirational side. Doesn’t look good to me, but we are all entitled to our opinions.

Added to this it is difficult to shift some of the dross we have signed.

Sad state of affairs. Entirely predictable though. I think we’ll start the season with exactly the same squad. That will inevitably mean conceding shit loads of goals from set pieces. The only hope is Vards and Madders can knock a few in.
