Ward or Iversen?

Looks like we might not sign a replacement for Kasper then, who do you want as first choice?

Back from his injury now, was back in training last week and played in a game against the under 21s today

Ward for me. Iversen looked good at Preston but I'm not convinced he's a premier league standard keeper. I don't think either are a patch on kasper but kasper will always be difficult to replace as he's a top class keeper, despite his flaws. Does kind of make sense not bringing in a new keeper though as we are more desperate for a centre back and winger. Maybe sign a new keeper next summer if Ward and/or Iversen aren't up to it.

Start with Ward, if he drops some clangers bring in Iversen. If it's still an issue sign someone else next summer.

As captain, Kasper was undroppable. This at least means there will be someone challenging the #1.

I do wonder if we are looking to keep the position "open" for a season or 2 until we feel Stolarczyk is a bit more ready for it with how highly he is rated by the club?

Agreed, it's pretty obvious.

 

I can see a major shakeup over the next 12 months. I'm talking manager, senior players and maybe even at boardroom level. When Ranieri got sacked it's because he fell out with Rudkin over who was running the club, on top of poor performances. In Schmeichel's case he has been offered a 3 year deal at Nice, which implies he was offered less than that (if one at all) by Leicester. Add to that a general lack of backing of the manager and well... 

 

Or it could be that finances are in a complete mess with Stadium Plans and Training Centre way over budget and Covid wrecking King Power's core business. King Power are pretty good at keeping things private... there haven't been any leaks from Rudkin to Percy this season... which also implies problems behind the scenes.

 

It will all come out in the wash eventually, and am curious to know what it is.

highly rated or not, he has a lot to prove. I’d be banging on preston’s door telling them we’ve got another guy for them

Start at Vicarage Road where Brendan handed Ward a game denying Kasper of his 150th consecutive league game or something. Either Kasper already had one foot out the door or Brendan was nudging him towards it.

Makes absolutely no sense to sign a keeper atm. Whether it's Brendan's choice or not is another thing but I'm glad he's saying it

 

I'd rather we use what we have and reassess in later in the season. We should know by January if we think Iversen has what it takes to be the #1 in the medium term. He doesn't need to be playing at a world class level immediately, but we should hopefully see enough to be able to decide whether we can give him more time or if he's not looking like a potential top 8 keeper.

Firstly on Schmeichel, people are removing responsibility this may have been Kasper’s choice. He wanted to play European football and he’s gone to a club who pay very well in a league which is slightly more slower in its style. Certainly not as direct which is his weakness. We had in an effect twelve months left of him. 
 

If Iversen hadn’t made that error against Notts, on paper he’s exactly the sort of player, people would be advocating the club buy. Gone up through the leagues, player of last season and aerial more talented. For that I’d be going with him

What has Ward done to convince you that he should be the 1st choice ?

 

I’ve not seen much of Iversen but he was highly rated at Preston, I wouldn’t just write him off after a couple of friendlys

Iversen for, I think we'll see how he goes this season and maybe move for Raya next summer if he's a calamity (I think he'll be fine, tbh)

I wouldn’t trust either of them. Would rather us keep Kasper for one more year than have these two fighting it out.

Ward gets first go if both are fully fit.

 

I think one or the other will almost certainly measure up, and it is the kind of risk we have to be taking to maximise our limited budget.
