Good comparison as should be around about our direct challengers based on last 3 seasons- we obviously finished above them twice and 2 places below last year

They could see their squad wasnt strong enough- they had a rocky start with pretty much the same 11 they fielded last season- similar to us in many ways- the big difference is they have gone and spent well over £150m quid to make sure they are right up there again this season and dont drop away- they also didnt sell their prime asset in Declan Rice in the way we have- they had 3 or 4 new players in the team Sunday- got their win and obviously will move up the table with the quality of players they have brought in

Nayef Aguerd (£30m, Rennes)
Alphonse Areola (£8m, Paris Saint-Germain)
Flynn Downes (£9.6m, Swansea City)
Gianluca Scamacca (£32.4m, Sassuolo)
Maxwel Cornet (£17.5m, Burnley)
Thilo Kehrer (£10m, Paris Saint-Germain)
Emerson Palmieri (£15m, Chelsea)
Lucas Paqueta (£50m, Lyon)

Really does show the state of affairs we are in-  although I am not a Rodgers fan at all and im firmly in the Rodgers out camp now- have been since he picked Amartey at left CB again away at Arsenal- he definitely has not been supported this year to make us competitive- our recruitment team should be buying the best talent in that 20-30m price bracket from all around the world- should have been the same last season-  I wouldnt let Rodgers make the decison on any of them but the club should be providing him with the tools to at least have a chance of being successful- West ham spent 8m on a sub keeper for god sake and we havent even replaced our number 1

When you look at the quality of player we are being linked with like Faes and Bogo compared to even just the west ham signings above its a complete horror show- add to that the number of young players that have moved this summer to other clubs that we should have been all over but havent been and it really has been a disasterous past 3 transfer windows catching up with us

I would say, Westham have over 60k attending every home games, our is half that. This in itself generates income that we can’t match, which is why they can invest as much as they have.

What I really don't understand is how we got in this mess, over the past 7 seasons we have finished 1st, 12th, 9th, 9th, 5th, 5th, 8th in the most lucrative league in the world and spent 3 of those seasons in Europe. The prize/TV money alone would be more than West Ham and others around us, how have we mismanaged everything so badly?

Some of their season tickets went down to about £325 for adults this season

Gate income is a tiny percentage of a clubs income, TV and where you finish are worth far more.

Our income is always higher than west ham - over by 30m in the last accounts

revenue is now at a similar level and our wage bill is much higher.

May have something to do with people still buying dildo's for the last 2yrs and our owners income has been nothing.

But hey let's just keep up with the hammers and go bust.

Pretty sure this will be a key driver. One last push for top 4 to keep Rice, as he'll be gone next summer if they don't make it.

We spent 100m on a training ground and they got given a 700m stadium for free. There's an 800m pound swing just there.

You can't just example one season to do a fair comparison.

isn't that outside of the scope of FFP?

...yes it is, but the revenue we earned from our end-of-season position is being used to finance the developments via collateral against loans!!!

We have to pay the loans back over a period of time, so a £100m loan (Seagrave) over 5 years means we are paying £20m a year along with wages and other bills. We are also attempting to expand the ground using the same process. It is long-term planning, which is having a short-term impact.

Covid and the subsequent delay in agreement with the Council will have increased the cost of the project due to scarcity of materials and workforce available, with backlogs of projects in the construction industry.

....there will not be any discernible money being made from the difference of both values!!!

The structure may be £700m more expensive but it does not earn them anything. If it became the place to host International sporting events and was a venue being used all year round then you could see it being a very good asset where its size and location justified the cost.

On average, success rate of transfers is 50/50. That list could easily end up a more expensive version of our last summer transfer window. I’d have taken Aguerd and Paqueta in a heartbeat, possibly Cornet.  Scamacca is a very expensive risk, Downes I don’t know enough about, and I don’t think Emerson has pulled up many trees either. Have to see how they progress, but they could easily have spent all this money and finish lower this season. Six to seven European spots, competition is fierce. There’s going to be a lot of disappointed sides that don’t meet that target.

From our point of view we are clearly in a difficult position, and most of the transition will clearly need to happen next summer. The squad still has enough talent. Whether the voice leading it is still the correct one is highly questionable. Hopefully a couple of fresh faces lifts the mood in the next 24hrs.

Good question and one you are definitely not going to get an answer from the cub over.

When you look at their last accounts - if you account for the Covid variations they were spending 30-40m less on wages and 20m less in amortisation charge every season. Higher revenue potential and lower costs gives them the space we don’t have.

They’ve clearly added a chunk to that wage bill now and transfer fee cost given they’ve spent over 200m in these last two summers. If it doesn’t work out they face a similar issue to us

Yep.

Our training ground isn't Improving performances, and it isn't attracting players.

Atleast it's got a decent golf course. Seems to be where most the squad are spending their lives.
