The structure may be £700m more expensive but it does not earn them anything. If it became the place to host International sporting events and was a venue being used all year round then you could see it being a very good asset where its size and location justified the cost. There will, although granted not to such an extent. Seagrave we have the 100m cost plus interest payments to make on it. West Ham no longer have to keep an old stadium running or pay for a new one or refurbish the old one. They also get the upside of an additional 25000 seats to sell. The money they would have had to spend had they not been given the stadium for free and the interest on the loan they would have taken to do that would definitely have made a discernible difference. Building a new stadium in London would have cost them a fortune like their free one did the taxpayer or Spurs spent and are now in the most amount of debt in the league over.

Phenom Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 We’ve gone from battling Spurs, Arsenal and Man U for the 4th CL spot a few years ago to hoping we don’t get relegated.

Both have been tripe so far. So let's just see eh?

Chrysalis Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Who thinks we will do better than taking up lookman start of window like the option we had?
jv1 Posted 31 August 2022 Author Posted 31 August 2022 One last add from me- look at how many they managed to ship out this summer - how have we not been able to get rid of our crap Out Mark Noble (retired) Andriy Yarmolenko (free, Al-Ain) Ryan Fredericks (free, Bournemouth) David Martin (released) Nathan Holland (free, MK Dons) Ossama Ashley (free, Colchester United) Aji Alese (undisclosed, Sunderland) Sonny Perkins (free, Leeds United) Arthur Masuaku (loan, Besiktas) Issa Diop (£15m, West Ham United) Nikola Vlasic (loan, Torino) Joseph Anang (loan, Derby County) Thierry Nevers (loan, Newport County) Nathan Trott (loan, Vejle) Daniel Chesters (loan, Colchester United) Ademipo Odubeko (loan, Port Vale) Armstrong Oko-Flex (loan, Swansea City) Emmanuel Longelo (loan, Birmingham City)

Ours will look similar next year.

We have to pay the loans back over a period of time, so a £100m loan (Seagrave) over 5 years means we are paying £20m a year along with wages and other bills. We are also attempting to expand the ground using the same process. It is long-term planning, which is having a short-term impact. Covid and the subsequent delay in agreement with the Council will have increased the cost of the project due to scarcity of materials and workforce available, with backlogs of projects in the construction industry. Yes let’s back our owners, they haven’t got much wrong so far and hopefully in the long term we will be better off.
Jaspa Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Nice if you can get a 60,000 seat stadium gifted to you and all the running & maintainance costs subsidised. 1
Grebfromgrebland Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Spending keeps you in the division. Mostly. Interesting that over 2 years the bottom of the spend table consists of relegated and relegation fodder.

The prize/TV money alone would be more than West Ham and others around us, how have we mismanaged everything so badly? I can’t see why you think we have been mismanaged. We still have the same squad as last season which finished 8th apart from Fofana and Schmeichel who both wanted to leave and hopefully a lot of the Fofana money will be spent. You can’t just keep bringing more players in without selling because of FFP and that is where the issue lies, too many average squad players are on big wages- but that is a recruitment issue not mismanagement.

We don’t have the global income of other squads.
baldeagle Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 They may have had a better transfer window on paper but lets just see how it pans out . Also we’ve had more success than West Ham in recent years . Buying a shed load of players doesn’t always work out .
CosbehFox Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Bit baffled by this really - there's a lots of 'ifs' with those signings and a decent degree of risk
Foxdiamond Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Back in day most of us were familiar with the signings. We had all seen Jon Sammels or Frank Worthington play. Nowadays with all the overseas players not nearly so much. Could I ask those with opinions on linked players how much is based on actually seeing these players play at least a few times or based more on stats?
splinterdream Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 I remember hearing Sullivan when he became largest shareholder on talksport moaning about the mismanagement of the club with crap players being given large contracts and they’d have to work to get the club back into shape.
